Researchers Question “Gold Standard” Status of CBT

I'd call that a warning sign about lack of benefit.

Ideas For Marketing ME More Effectively...

The word 'exercise' is too limited in that it invokes the physical sense only. We need something that covers physical, mental, and social exertion, without having to spell it out (in the first instance, it can be done later in follow-up info). 'Effort' is too closely aligned to notions of...

Ideas For Marketing ME More Effectively...

+1 on both points. In the age of hi-def video cameras in every phone there must be good pre-illness footage of some patients fully engaged in life to be able to use in a before-and-after compare-and-contrast. Good graphics work. This one linked further down that thread makes me laugh...

Ideas For Marketing ME More Effectively...

There is a danger in overplaying it, or being perceived to overplay it. You don't want to provoke fear of the afflicted, only fear of the affliction. Also, zombies are not a particularly original meme these days. I like the version: 'the more you do, the sicker you get' (Suggested by...

BBC: Chronic fatigue syndrome treatment 'should be withdrawn'

I see they have been downgraded to merely 'some' of the country's leading ME researchers and clinicians. Oh dear. How sad. Never mind.

Message from the Chair BACME on ME Awareness Month

Where's a giant steaming turd emoji when you need one? :brb:... . . . . . Ahhhhhh, that feels much better. :)

FoI request regarding an 'activist list' in the Sunday Times Magazine in May 2013

I remain deeply skeptical about the true nature of the alleged intimidation and threats faced by Wessely & co. There needs to be a high level, transparent, independent, and rigorous formal public inquiry into the facts. I do not believe Wessely & co will come out of it looking good, but that...

Re-framing GET as pacing, or vice-versa

GET is not pacing. Psychs want to make it appear so. But it isn't, and can't be. They are mutually exclusive approaches. It can only be GET or pacing, but not both.

Australia: Boost for people with ME and chronic fatigue syndrome thanks to Parliament

I'll wait until I see the money, and where it goes, including ME patients getting a much better deal from Centrelink. The rest is just words.

A unifying theory for cognitive abnormalities in functional neurological disorders, Fibromyalgia and CFS (2018), Mark J Edwards et al.

Change just one word and the whole thing changes: Functional cognitive disorder (FCD) describes cognitive dysfunction in the absence of a known organic cause. Which is why they always leave that critical caveat out. This is straight fraud.

Guardian piece on ME by Nick Duerden, mentions PACE 'controversy', includes quote from Chalder. Bit of a nothing article.

It is better than the Guardian's usual standard on this subject. I'll give it that.

One side effect of being young, female and sick: People won’t believe you

The comments just demonstrate the problem that the article is discussing.

A general thread on the PACE trial!

I'm sure there is a joke in there somewhere.

    Reframing psychiatric/psychological illness

This shit show is a long way from over yet. The BPS cult have made it abundantly clear that they are not for the turning, are going to redouble their efforts, fight to the bitter end, and that we patients are merely expendable pawns in their crusade.

Why Bioethics Should Be Concerned With Medically Unexplained Symptoms. (2018) O'Leary

It's bizarre. When I went for the psych component of my assessment to get the pension, the psych asked me if I had any history of mental illness. And I said no. He then said, well personal history doesn't really matter anyway, because people can get mental problems without any history too...
