Wondering if our knowledge has moved forward on this in terms of trial showing whether they work, understanding why they would work, knowing who they would and wouldn't work for, etc.?
Also wondering about the pros and cons of rehydration recipes including sugar rather than electrolytes alone...
But those aren't the choices, wasting small or wasting big! We don't have to waste any money, in the sense of choosing as well as we can given the information we've got.
The field is awash with small, underpowered studies that have got us nowhere. Even when they come up with positive results...
I don't think it's the number of studies that's important so much as the likelihood of useful results. I'd be happy for the MEA to drop £1m on a study that was worth it. The key thing is to prioritise, based on our best understanding of the science - and we need good scientists reviewing those...
From the MEA's post-AGM statement:
I have a huge amount of respect for the work that Dr Shepherd has done but surely this doesn't mean that he's the sole reviewer for all the research proposals? Perhaps this means that he's in charge of it and other people are doing the reviewing?
Of all of the issues with the MEA, I think this one dwarfs the rest. The MEA has £3.6m in assets, while ME/CFS research is starved of funds. We can't afford to have the MEA waste money.
I quite like a combo of those two - 'ME/CFS Science Insights' - because I think you need 'Science' or 'Research' in the title to make it clear what it is that you're looking into, just as 'ME/CFS Skeptic' has proved problematic because people don't know what aspect of ME/CFS you're sceptical about.
If this is the case, then is it worth writing to Companies House about it, on top of all the other stuff? I think it would help Companies House to understand the scale of what's going amiss in terms of the MEA not getting the independent scrutiny that it needs.
The polling format here on Zenforo isn't sophisticated enough for that, I'm afraid.
I'm not focusing on postural change but on when in the day our OI is forcing us to lie down. My impression is that most of us find that the pressure to lie down builds and builds over time until we're forced to...
Well done, @Trish. I haven't been following the situation closely but I think it's important that the MEA get 'critical friend' letters like this. Like you, I haven't resubscribed to the MEA lately because of my concerns over their behaviour.
