UK: Disability benefits (UC, ESA and PIP) - news and updates 2024 and 2025

Thank you. This idea of a new authority to make awards, plus a new advocacy service with people from charities working as advocates or an advocate coaching a family member, is a massive extra layer of admin/employment. Puts me in mind of the fragmentation of social care where everything is a...

UK: Disability benefits (UC, ESA and PIP) - news and updates 2024 and 2025

Just doing the survey. Strongly advise that someone else summarises its contents(I’m foggy) as it seems very clear what they want to do. A separate authority to issue payments (not DWP) and an advocacy system for claimants. Lots of “your idea of a “good life” your barriers/your wishes” if...

Psychology Today: In Search of a Coherent Understanding of ME/CFS and Long Covid, Jake Hollis

People laughed at Trump for suggesting using bleach to “cleanse” the body of Covid 19 yet these people get whole careers making even less medical sense of ME/CFS and LC “treatment”. I’m feeling there’s some “inflammation” in my body just hearing about this bunkum…

Psychology Today: In Search of a Coherent Understanding of ME/CFS and Long Covid, Jake Hollis

Not in the mood to read, but if we change ME/CFS and LC to HIV+ how horribly offensive would it be? Also, if we substitute with “spontaneous human combustion” how hilarious?

United Kingdom News (including UK wide, England, NI and Wales - see separate thread for news from Scotland)

Why would an unprecedented pandemic caused by an escaped lab-manufactured killer virus which interrupted life for a few years around the globe, killing millions and leaving millions more with residual ill health for which there is no explanation or treatment, cause those unwell survivors...

Language Matters: What Not to Say to Patients with Long COVID, ME/CFS, and Other Complex Chronic Disorders, 2025, Nancy J. Smyth et al

The NHS in UK has a policy to promote healthy lifestyles at every opportunity, there is no way they will stop interfering in your diet, it’s literally their policy to do so. I think I’ve had “why don’t you lose weight…I know you’re tired but just eat microwave meals” twice this week in...

BACME position paper on the management of ME/CFS, 2020, updated 2022 - discussion thread

Like any “stakeholder” patient groups can be there for window dressing and have no real input, or can be useful idiots. A selection of 5-20 patients aren’t a synecdoche and we need to stop allowing people to speak about them as if they are. BACME involved patients in their terrible chat-gpt...

    Needing to lie flat

To me it feels like nodding off, one minute you’re thinking “don’t do it, just keep going” and the next, you’ve lay down.

    Needing to lie flat

I get the “too many g” and the irresistible urge to just lie down, they are very different but leading to the same result. Kind of like a cold, I don’t care if it’s bacterial or viral, I feel ill. Sometimes I can start to feel faint, yet Ive never fainted in my life, the closest I have managed...

Duvets - what fillings are worth a try, and which brands and retail are good (eg for being able to send back)

I always buy duvets from Marks and Spencer, reasonably priced and last well in my experience. Of course, they have excellent customer service & returns as well which is a bonus.

looking for reccommendations: indoor recliner that is ergonomic to support arms and back etc

I think the bonus with the zero-g is that it’s made of a woven seat - it adapts to your body shape in a way cushions don’t. I’ve used one indoors when I was desperate, it was winter and I got very cold as it didn’t have a mattress. I was looking at these, cheap but decent reviews...

#ThereForME campaign / Building an NHS that’s there for Long Covid and ME

I don’t see how the PROMS project has any crossover with ensuring the NICE guidelines are implemented, lol

    Patient registries

You can opt in to be part of research in the NHS app. I haven’t, so I can’t see the screens. I don’t want to be bombarded with stuff.

#ThereForME campaign / Building an NHS that’s there for Long Covid and ME

I doubt the NHS spends money tracking whether they meet “guideline” standards. Although they do probably employ as many quality assurance posts as they do doctors, who knows?
