CBD oil: Have the benefits been overstated? (BBC Health)

CBD did nothing for my pain or anything else. I might as well have drunk water. I tried two supposedly very reputable brands.

    Managing “Outrage”

It doesn't take much outrage to turn me into a spluttering mess. I can't gather together what few thoughts I have so I'm very grateful to the incredibly knowledgeable and patient people here who calmly continue to post in the most frustrating circumstances.

Clock changes disturbing sleep in ME/CFS

I wish I had enough grip on what time of day to the nearest hour it is to be affected. I presume those people bothered by the time change aren't affected as the days shorten and lengthen by an hour over the few months that it happens normally.

Protocol Serial Paediatrics Omics Tracking in [ME] (SPOT-ME): protocol paper for a multidisciplinary, observational study..., 2024, Armstrong+

I think your concerns are incredibly serious. It really worries me how simple it can be to do actual damage to people's lives and children's futures despite the best of intentions.

When you can't find the words: Using body mapping to communicate patients' experiences of Long Covid 2024 Jokela-Pansini et al

Before drawing a diagram such as the one about biting back, I, for one, would have to go through a thorough verbal process to decide what the symptoms are and the effect they have. I would need to think in great detail to be able to come up with the symbolic concept of repeatedly threatening...

Review Machine learning and multi-omics in precision medicine for ME/CFS, 2025, Huang....Armstrong

I've always had a bit of a problem with 'poorly understood' which is trotted out in countless preambles and abstracts. It implies that some actual understanding of the condition exists, which doesn't seem to be the case. Why not just say that it isn't understood?

    Anti-coagulants

Long story, but two weeks ago in A&E I started taking a low dose of Eliqis (apixaban) after a single episode of atrial fibrillation. The first 36 hours were uneventful then I had the most horrendous side effects: Muscle and joint pain off the charts. Couldn't sleep for more than a few hours a...

What high-quality resources should S4ME produce for PwME, clinicians, researchers etc.?

Until more is understood about it I can't see the value in tinkering with the term PEM. As someone said back in this thread somewhere I think, it's a placeholder. However! Personally, I can't even bring myself to use the word malaise. Its medical meaning, "a general feeling of discomfort...

Should we change our name: 'ME/CFS Skeptic'?

I voted to keep the name but, as much as I love the catchiness of the current name, I'm persuaded that it might be better to change it. I'm pretty hopeless with this sort of thing but maybe the name could include something like " ... just the facts".

Should we change our name: 'ME/CFS Skeptic'?

I like the ambiguity in the name. It certainly made me curious to find out more.

Cayenne pepper - improved my circulation & warmth

I feel like a constant wet blanket but I tried topical capsaicin from the pharmacy in an effort to dull the neuropathic pain in my feet so I could sleep and I've never been in such pain. Well I probably have but this was right up there. I had to wait it out for a good 8 hours for any relief...

12-week melatonin intake attenuates cardiac autonomic dysfunction and oxidative stress in multiple sclerosis patients: a RCT, 2024, Jallouli

My own experience over the years, from having tried it (via iHerb) at different doses for periods of weeks and months at a time, is that it hasn't helped my insomnia at all. I won't be taking it again because of the potential risks. I know nothing about biochemistry but it seems to me that...
