Internet-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy in Stepped Care for CFS: Randomized Noninferiority Trial, 2019, Knoop et al

So, if I understand this correctly... There is a treatment available which is not helpful. The same treatment is given over the internet. And the results from the internet version are not inferior to the non-internet version. Well... Err... Yes... That was useful.

The right to record medical consultations - UK and other countries

I haven't recorded an NHS appointment but I do take my husband with me to appointments. It is astonishing how much more polite doctors and other medical staff are to me when there is a witness, particularly when that witness is male.

    Thoughts on AMPS—psychosomatizing?

Perhaps more females than males are traumatised in childhood. My upbringing was very sexist, and my brother was the favoured child in virtually everything.

Is it true that more than half of medical consultations are for MUS? A look at the evidence.

@NelliePledge From my point of view MUS comes across as the ultimate "Get out of jail free card" for any doctor whose diagnostic skills are poor. If they don't know what diagnosis to give they can just blame the patient and pass them on to the therapists who've had a week's training in CBT. And...

One thing that no journalist ever asks of these researchers who are, allegedly, in deadly danger from mad patients is... 1) How many times have the police arrested one of these patients? 2) How many have been charged with a crime? 3) How many court cases have their been? 4) How many people...

Trudie Chalder, BPS and MUS proponent - presentations, interviews and news

Is it true that more than half of medical consultations are for MUS? A look at the evidence.

My concern about the 52% figure for MUS is that the default diagnosis for a patient with MUS is that they are mentally ill. Gaslighting of patients with mental health problems seems to be rampant in any discipline. People who are mentally ill are often denied effective pain relief and accurate...

Journal of Medical Ethics - Blog: It’s Time to Pay Attention to “Chronic Fatigue Syndrome” (2019) O'Leary

There is another facet to this problem. Once a patient has a diagnosis suggesting they have a mental illness of some kind on their records it dramatically increases the level of proof doctors want for any future diagnosis to be of biological origin. And the inevitable result of this is detailed...

Going off at a tangent, psychological and personality factors have been implicated by doctors and researchers in people catching tuberculosis for 200 years? or more? How did such beliefs help anyone get better? How many people were cured? Research into the personality of patients with...

Is it true that more than half of medical consultations are for MUS? A look at the evidence.

Medical records in the NHS are dreadful. Doctors will lie if telling the truth will put them in a bad light. If they get something wrong they tend to make it disappear. As a 13-year-old I had a very serious medical issue that is (nowadays) described as a medical emergency. I was in extreme pain...

Is it true that more than half of medical consultations are for MUS? A look at the evidence.

The garbage about there being over 50% of patients with MUS and/or somatoform disorder must be compounded by the fact that there is no standard way of feeding back an accurate diagnosis to a doctor who found nothing wrong with the patient. Many cases of MUS must be solved eventually, not least...
