I think running recruitment campaigns on social media and through word of mouth would be fine. «We are looking for families with a least two cases of ME/CFS».
But I was approached about a study for a completely unrelated medical reason and felt no pressure to participate even though there are...
The purpose of CBT isn’t to help people to cope, it’s whatever the therapist wants it to do. CBT has no standards, other than that it’s about attempting to change your thoughts or behaviours. It is not harmless by nature, nor is it inherently efficient for anything, other than employing the...
Don’t you need everything to be predictable in determinism?
It’s impossible to predict the entire future because you’d need something to do the predicting and that something would have to contain the information of the state of everything, including itself. Not to mention the issue of being...
I think that I will be more likely to get ME/CFS again if I’m cured, because the people that get it once on average were more likely to get ME/CFS than the people that have not gotten it.
Regardless, I plan on strict masking if I’m ever able to be with people again on a regular basis. Mostly...
The data they will collect includes:
The statistical analysis plan hasn’t been written yet. How convenient:
They also seem to be completely oblivious to the issues with combining subjective outcomes with no blinding of the participants:
I get what you’re saying, but isn’t this why you should do up to a year of tracking of activity with e.g. step counters?
We know PEM is unpredictable and it seems like an unnecessarily complicated way to do it to track recovery time because you’d have to match it to an exertion/stimuli level...
Recover from what? PEM? I’d much rather try to assess how much that can be done without PEM. Otherwise you’ll end up with people arguing that a bit of PEM isn’t an issue because you’ll recover from it.
It seems like just another rehab practitioner that’s way too far down the rabbit hole and is unable to acknowledge that their tools can’t help everyone.
I enjoyed exercising at first because it felt good ot finally be allowed to use my body again. It did not turn out well long term.
How nice that we can just pretend that something doesn’t exist if we don’t want to deal with it. The fact that they don’t even try to hide it is telling us a lot: they either don’t understand why they are wrong, or they know it won’t have any consequences.
I think we’re heading the wrong way if meaning of life is supposed to be a therapy target. Talking about your experiences might be perceived as helpful by someone, but I’d wager that talking to peers is by far the most impactful because it gives us something to reframe our lives around.
She has had her fair share of questionable biological stuff, though.
I don’t think we should underestimate the informal power of the BPS proponents in certain countries. I’ve heard a few horror stories from Norway. They are not playing nice.
UK has its fair share of that as well.
RECOVER in...
I agree that it’s a bit unclear, but I read it as «Infection might trigger autonomic dysfunction, and autonomic dysfunction might contribute to ME/CFS»
If they wanted to say that the infection might cause autonomic dysfunction, syncope, and ME/CFS, they could have said it like that with a list.
if all of the interventions perform the same, someone should maybe ask if that’s because they are all equally ineffective.
I haven’t seen the assessment of the quality of the trails, and because it isn’t mentioned in the abstract I’m going to assume it was not very good or they found a way to...
