Seems like the publisher also bit over more than they can chew. It’s absurd that they’d consider not publishing something because they might be sued, instead of drawing the line at being sued for a case they will lose.
This does not look good:
It looks like the author might have bitten over more than they could chew. ME/CFS is a topic ripe with misinformation and has experienced a narrative war for decades, so it’s understandable but unfortunate. I would not feel comfortable writing a book like this even if I...
Lots of people with orthostatic intolerance have below 30 HR increase in tilt tables, so a «normal» response might still be OI.
I have no idea about the gastroparesis, but the symptoms seem generic enough to be a candidate for misdiagnosis or wrong self-diagnosis.
See below.
There are going to be more new ME/CFS cases if people get infected far more often than they used to. That’s different from covid having an increased rate of new onset ME/CFS compared to other viral infections.
Edited for clarity.
I don’t understand what you mean «pathway to...
How is it possible to always interpret the data in the least plausible manner?
Of course people with chronic fatigue will think that physical exertion requires more effort than people without chronic fatigue - because that is what they experience themselves.
And if someone expects a task to be...
Just commenting on some parts:
Lots of diseases present with exercise intolerance, weakness and fatigue. My relative with MS would fit this description. Peripheral neuropathy is also common (I’m not sure about the prevalence in ME/CFS).
What does covid have to do with ME/CFS in general? I...
Good point about the scaling of the X axis. It seems like you can change it in some programs so the X axis has the same amount of units for all plots instead. That would make the width if the violin with a smaller sample size a lot smaller, so it would be more difficult to see the distribution...
Oh, I clicked on the first every time so I didn’t see the second.
The AD one doesn’t say, but the liver cirrhosis is based on massive cohorts so you actually know that the rare variants are over-represented in the cases.
If you have that validation, I completely agree that the genes can be...
Yes, that’s possible if the physician is familiar with ME/CFS. Kristian Sommerfelt (@Bivox ) works a lot with children, you can find talks he has done on youtube.
I think this is key - if we count all kind of delayed symptom worsening as PEM, you’d have to include e.g. delayed onset muscle soreness - meaning that everyone experiences PEM.
The figure text says there are three not one. So it’s inconsistent with what’s said in the main text of the paper.
But we’ve gone over all of the points so I won’t bang on about it any more.
Our strategy is to be the best. We’re going to do that by having the best product and making the most money.
I can’t count how many times I’ve seen reasoning like that at work.
I agree that all activity isn’t exercise, but if the activity is structured and intended to cause an improvement in health, it is exercise. Which is what she’s talking about with her pacing up.
I have a lot of sympathy with your experience here, but I don’t think this is asking for perfection. Clearly telling the reader if the values are corrected or not is need to have, not nice to have.
Exercise is just structured activity, so she even got that wrong.
No, it really doesn’t.
I fear the new guidelines are going to be nightmare to deal with..
