Science minded people--help me engineer a simple structure to stay warm?

I think both strategies combined would be good. Something like an emergency heat retaining blanket wrapped around you, outside of good heat-insulation layers; the good ones are intended to help combat wind chill, which is a major factor in cold weather. But the tent would protect you from wind...

Effects of mirthful laughter on pain tolerance: A randomized controlled investigation, 2019, Lapierre et al

My guess is that you could well be right; the distraction could at least be a significant component.

The science of craniocervical instability and other spinal issues and their possible connection with ME/CFS - discussion thread

Just to to be pedantic, at this point in time it is alleged "vilifying of people in private FB groups".

Still to open How to make patients who aren't engaged in the patient community aware of studies recruiting?

Now that is a very neat idea! We may not be able to get the media interested in ME itself, but the media is perhaps more likely to take a serious interest in one of the largest genome wide association studies ever undertaken in the UK; it becomes a human story. If that could happen then Chris...

You have posted in order to discuss the issues rationally and openly, without any emotive rhetoric. That is what S4ME is here for. No biting off of heads :).

The Lancet: "Offline: The gravy train of systematic reviews" Richard Horton Nov 2019

"Roberts argues that trust could be restored if reviewers included only prospectively registered trials and checked that trial data were real and accurate." Agreed restoration of trust would need more than that, but it would probably be a good starting point for establishing a fuller set of...

MEAction: "DEMYSTIFYING THE DIAGNOSTIC CRITERIA FOR ME AND RELATED DISEASE"

Whatever the applicability of this might be in a clinical setting, I personally found the article very helpful in its clarification of the various diagnostic 'specifications' that exist, and how they differ. Until now not had such a good clarification, so many thanks for this @JaimeS. (I cannot...

David Tuller: Trial By Error: “Talk is Cheap,” Patients Tell NIH

Could you expand on that please. Why do you need clinicians and clinical backup in order to undertake medical research. Surely the clinical side of things is dependent upon there having been adequate research on which to base the clinical side of things. I know I'm must be missing something...

The science of craniocervical instability and other spinal issues and their possible connection with ME/CFS - discussion thread

Yes, there could be many other conditions people likely have concurrently with ME, but with no correlation whatsoever. Science is about seeing past apparent correlation / causation.

Open Letter to the Chief Executive of Action for ME about the AfME web page on Graded Exercise Therapy

Very good step in the right direction - encouraging. Well done @Trish ... and @Action for M.E. Various things still need sorting, but a crucial thing thing for me that is still ignored (but is in the letter): No one (in the world!) knows who will be harmed by GET until it is too late, and they...

Open letter to Dr Peter Fisher, Liverpool University, about a research survey on emotional distress and CFS. 2019

Very good letter Trish. The response, be it good, bad, or non-existent, will be illuminating one way or the other.

[my bold] [my bold] Surely they are not just relying solely on the questionnaire, but also on a medical diagnosis. Both things.
