Cochrane review: Homeopathy for treatment of irritable bowel syndrome, 2019, Peckham et al

Makes me think that in fact homeopath's way of working is, I believe, a highly bespoke and personalised approach, or at least that is the impression a patient will get. Maybe this is a key ingredient of placebo effect? Might be interesting if there were a trial of homeopathic 'remedies' with one...

Trial By Error: Bristol’s Report Due Soon; Slides from My Oxford Talk

The annoying thing about truth is that it gets in the way of beliefs for some, and they seem to be the ones who convince many to be true believers.

Cochrane review: Homeopathy for treatment of irritable bowel syndrome, 2019, Peckham et al

Whatever this is driven by, it surely cannot be science. Which then begs the question: what is it driven by? ETA: I see the answer is in the posts above - shit.

Action for M.E. 2019 AGM and conference 15th October 2019

Thought I'd better set the record straight. I did in fact get a very helpful reply from Clare Ogden re this on 7 Oct, but there's rather a lot going on in my life right now and I missed this! Thankfully others picked up on it anyway.

The putative glymphatic signature of chronic fatigue syndrome: A new view on the disease pathogenesis and therapy, 2018, Wostyn et al

Definitely is interesting, though I do worry when a scientist seeks to patent something like this, presumably for their own future financial gain, rather than allowing their discovery be made generally available for the benefit of all.

Action for M.E. 2019 AGM and conference 15th October 2019

Just being devil's advocate. How much was donated to the Clare Francis Research Fund? "research-related activity" is presumably a superset of directly funding research, and could include advocacy endeavours promoting research, etc. All such money raised should be shown to have very definitely...

Open Trial of Vitamin B12 Nasal Drops in Adults With [ME/CFS]: Comparison of Responders and Non-Responders, 2019, van Campen et al

This would not surprise me. Thinking about my wife (who is mild / moderate), her 'fatigue' is a key limiting factor, and if she were able to actually do more before reaching that limit, that is exactly what she would do ... more activity. It's what she craves being able to do more of, and the...

Cochrane Review: 'Exercise therapy for chronic fatigue syndrome', Larun et al. - New version October 2019 and new date December 2024

Another thought for the mix. Subjective questionnaires are going to result in pretty inconsistent answers even for people who are cognitively A1. But a key problem is that most pwME are a far from A1 cognitively, and so they will tend to have real trouble answering such a questionnaire when so...

Individual cristae within the same mitochondrion display different membrane potentials and are functionally independent, 2019, Wolf et al

I doubt this would necessarily cast doubt on the possibility that ME could be a problem in the mitochondria, though of course that is itself very much unproven yet. Although battery packs comprising multiple independent batteries can be more resilient to some failure modes, that would not make...

Cochrane Review: 'Exercise therapy for chronic fatigue syndrome', Larun et al. - New version October 2019 and new date December 2024

Basically the readings are susceptible to a lot of 'noise' and the the notional minimal clinical difference values are completely lost within the noise, so are meaningless. So much so as to be completely misleading.

Cochrane Review: 'Exercise therapy for chronic fatigue syndrome', Larun et al. - New version October 2019 and new date December 2024

And I'm sure I recall a PACE participant saying they did their 6mwt by 'exchanging' it for some of their otherwise normal activities. Even apparently objective measures are not really that objective for ME, unless you reliably track energy usage continuously over time. A key facet of ME is that...
