Factors associated with work status in chronic fatigue syndrome (2019) S A M Stevelink, N T Fear, M Hotopf, T Chalder

An association between depressive symptoms and being out of work, as they say above. This sounds like they are saying the depressive symptoms are a contributory cause of being out of work! I wonder if it occurs to them that being too ill to work, as well as knowing that many people do not...

Protocol: Persistent physical symptoms reduction intervention: a system change and evaluation (PRINCE), 2015 onwards, Chalder, Moss-Morris, et al

A completely unequivocal assertion that may result in their lawyers earning a lot of fees off of them one day.

A perspective on causation of the chronic fatigue syndrome by considering its nosology, 2019, White

That is a very good point, and begs a very important question: Given who PDW is, and his professional qualifications and experience, how could he possibly have overlooked the possibility that any additional depression prevalence in pwME could be due to the medical profession's behaviour towards...

A perspective on causation of the chronic fatigue syndrome by considering its nosology, 2019, White

Another explanation could likely be there are two fundamental causes for comorbid depression in pwME, rather than just one: The debilitating impact of the illness itself on many areas of a person's life, same as for many other illnesses. The eternal uphill struggle of fighting against against...

ME/CFS NICE Guideline - Safety testing of GET in PACE trial

That's a good article. Very reassuring to realise I'm not the only one to recognise the parallels of aviation safety and medical safety. Why shouldn't the medical profession be prepared to learn relevant safety aspects from the aviation industry?

Activity baseline vs activity ceiling, why concepts and language matter

And the simple truth is that GET and CBT-a-la-PACE explicitly coerce pwME to ignore their ceiling and pretend it does not exist, is only due to false beliefs. At best pwME will be pushed into significant PEM, at worst their ME significantly worsened.

The PACE trial video series by A Broken Battery

I realise another benefit. Actually hearing MS speak. Something that all these high profile BPS researchers seem to share in common - MS, SW, EC - is an extremely convincing way of speaking, they sound so genuine, so sincere. Their ability to win people over just by this alone should not be...

ME/CFS NICE Guideline - Safety testing of GET in PACE trial

https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m00077cw/panorama-boeings-killer-planes. The Boeing 737 Max. Just following up further on this, because I really do believe there are serious parallels here that might help NICE gain insights they should already have, but very likely don't have, and they...

Intellectual humility: the importance of knowing you might be wrong - Vox, Jan 2019

Ha!, Yes ... MS genuinely acknowledging the virtues of intellectual humility, would be the ultimate inconceivability. Yet pretending to acknowledge it, highly believable.

Psychology Today blog - The Dark Side of Social Media Activism in Science, 2019, S. Camarata

Not even sure meltdown is the right word ... has their methodology ever really solidified?

Activity baseline vs activity ceiling, why concepts and language matter

Aircraft have the notion of a flight envelope. There are many factors that affect what an aircraft can safely do and under what operating conditions. If you were to map out all the possible combinations of factors (air density, angle of attack, airspeed, etc, and many many other things) you...

Activity baseline vs activity ceiling, why concepts and language matter

When I first met my wife, more than 40 years ago now, she had recently learned to drive. One thing she still had trouble with was how hard/fast she could safely turn the wheel when moving very slowly, such as when doing 3-point turns - in those days before power assisted steering, you could...

The PACE trial video series by A Broken Battery

That's a very good audience to aim for. Especially those who maybe have no particular interest in it even, and will have a very low boredom threshold on it. Short, sweet, punchy messages like you are doing here just might pique their curiosity enough to enquire a bit further.

The PACE trial video series by A Broken Battery

You are very good at this @Adam pwme. You have the crucial knack of of omitting distracting, less important material, so that the high priority messages you do want to get across, come across loud, clear, and above all very concisely. Really good.

Stanford Community Symposium 2018: Phair, Metabolic traps, Tryptophan trap

I need to just clarify here. My wife was up and about and doing stuff within a day of getting out of hospital; no time for deconditioning. (Yes I know ... but YOU try telling her not to ;) ).

The PACE trial video series by A Broken Battery

I may be over thinking this, but I think the music works for me because it is gently melancholy, yet not despairing, which I think fits with the subject matter.

Stanford Community Symposium 2018: Phair, Metabolic traps, Tryptophan trap

Interesting. My wife developed ME whilst recovering from a fairly minor op, but under general anaesthetic, and getting a horrible flu bug at virtually the same time. Her ME became evident by way of not seeming to recover from the operation; turned out her ME was cutting in as her op recovery was...

Just watched it @Adam pwme, it's really good. The gentle background music works really well, though I can't explain why.

Goes with the mindset. Arrogance and embarrassment tend to be mutually exclusive.

Stanford Community Symposium 2018: Phair, Metabolic traps, Tryptophan trap

Really good to read that, because I have always maintained that my wife is best evidence against the deconditioning theory. I'm totally convinced she always does more than would be needed to work past any deconditoning; in your case (glad you have improved by the way), that proves it very...
