The hardware/software analogy of the BPS theory

Yes. I particularly did not understand this bit . . . (Also, @rvallee the simpler the better)

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome & Other Difficulties: Introducing a Modern Scientific Controversy to a Biology Classroom (Liang & Zaitsev, 2019)

If you mean the second session: simmering controversy section on the right side as you scroll down -- this does not link to anything for me. If it's some other controversy highlighted I cannot see it.

The science of craniocervical instability and other spinal issues and their possible connection with ME/CFS - discussion thread

Sorry, just to add . . . In thinking about this thread and my post I don't want to seem to come down hard on Jen Brea. She has done good things in advocacy for ME. And I think she is more sensitive than many others have been about her situation being fortunate for the support and resources she...

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome & Other Difficulties: Introducing a Modern Scientific Controversy to a Biology Classroom (Liang & Zaitsev, 2019)

Can you provide the title of what you click on? I can't find anything either. Or maybe a quote from the paper you're referring to?

Psychiatric conference in Norway nov. 2019 themed "Stressology" (Wyller among lecturers)

Ooooo, the are making all the right noises. They are positively embracing (I's say squeezing the life out of) biological research. We should take them really seriously. What I no longer understand is: do they think they are treating the somatic illness or the stress it causes? And if there...

    Weekly collapses

I'm not sure. I was thinking there might be some sort of medical device that is available for use at home. But I don't really know much about this. When I had major surges like this there would have been no tech available. And I suppose it would really depend on noticing early and being at...

    Weekly collapses

I've experienced this over decades. I believe that the health community has this particular biology exactly backwards. If you google anything around adrenaline (epinephrine) surge you get only and always a commentary on psychological fear and/or anxiety causing this. This has absolutely not...

Intellectual humility: the importance of knowing you might be wrong - Vox, Jan 2019

Also I think based on a dislike and mistrust of people who are not as special as they are. If they were sick with whatever we have none of this BPS stuff would exist.

Protocol: Persistent physical symptoms reduction intervention: a system change and evaluation (PRINCE), 2015 onwards, Chalder, Moss-Morris, et al

I find their advice to be utterly patronising. I wouldn't treat children to this kind of fluffy nonsense.

Activity baseline vs activity ceiling, why concepts and language matter

Understood. I wasn't lobbying for it just thought it might explain.

Activity baseline vs activity ceiling, why concepts and language matter

Think of it like a verb: to envelope. So in an enclosed space.

Denmark: Analysis and comments to Karina Hansen's journal from when she was sectioned at Hammel Neurocenter

I hope this is pursued and soon and that there is change for the better. The story made for horrific reading. It was de facto torture and redress could as legitimately be pursued on those grounds. The system has failed spectacularly here and a young woman has suffered greatly.

New poor Guardian article "ME and the perils of internet activism" 28th July 2019

I have no great knowledge on the subject but from what I've seen over time my opinion is that all organisations at their inception are foremost about protecting the organisation. Some can rise above being merely or only this. That is a matter of leadership. (And in my opinion is lacking at...

New poor Guardian article "ME and the perils of internet activism" 28th July 2019

It is a bit of a sticky situation for her. She knows the issues since Tovey made them clear (I had forgotten that). But she was specially selected to replace him when the people hiring her were very unhappy with Tovey for his plucking up the courage to buck the system. Perhaps they may try...

Psychology Today blog - The Dark Side of Social Media Activism in Science, 2019, S. Camarata

And the problem here is more terrifying than his lack of belief in ME and that the ME community are all trolls and we don't have any clue about our own illness. He fancies himself a scientist. And his views and ideas that he shares publicly end up taking us straight down the path to the...

New poor Guardian article "ME and the perils of internet activism" 28th July 2019

You could be right (I hope so) but I see it more as a warning shot across the bow to tow the line. Provided our supposition is even correct in the first place. Would love to see it as an MS own goal though so will hope until we see what we see.

@feeb I was concerned this might be the case. There are some really excellent comments so unfortunate if this is the case.

New poor Guardian article "ME and the perils of internet activism" 28th July 2019

I think @NelliePledge may have given the clue here to the purpose of the article (and I would suggest that the journo was an unwitting puppet for it) Who knows what goes on at Cochrane. It may be that they thought they had found a nice pliable psychiatrist to replace D Tovey and then the...
