Trial registration for Simmaron Research study: Rapamycin in Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS) They will be giving a max dose of 6 mg/week to people with ME/CFS (IOM criteria), comparing outcomes between those with "serological evidence of autophagy disruption" to...

Alcohol Intolerance poll. Please do the poll even if your answer is no.

Since ME/CFS started, I've only drank alcohol a few times. I remember one time in college I drank probably two or three shots, and I became very sick. Not vomiting or nauseous, but just a very lousy, fatigued feeling. Almost immediately after drinking, I curled up in bed instead of socializing...

Deep phenotyping of post-infectious myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome, 2024, Walitt et al

Referring to CSF observations above: does anyone know if the ME/CFS participants and healthy volunteers were tested at different times, in two distinct groups? Whether for just the CSF metabolite concentrations, or the study as a whole.

Deep phenotyping of post-infectious myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome, 2024, Walitt et al

I'm starting to wonder if there was a methodological issue with the CSF metabolite lab test in the NIH study. 92% (Edit: 88%) of the 445 chemicals tested had a lower median in ME/CFS. All of the metabolites they reported as significant were lower. I don't know enough about the field, but does...

Ventricular cerebrospinal fluid lactate is increased in [CFS] compared with generalized anxiety disorder, 2009, Mathew et al.

I'm listening to the NIH research roadmap, and Jarred Younger was saying there was strong evidence of elevated lactate using neuroimaging, which piqued my curiosity. I don't know much about what exactly they tested in this thread's study, but is it a comparable test to the Deep Phenotyping...

What research do you want to see? (study ideas)

I've seen a few people with ME/CFS on PhoenixRising and Reddit order online WGS tests. I wonder if it might be good to do a cheaper preliminary study where researchers put out a call for people who already have their results to send them in.

Cardiopulmonary and metabolic responses during a 2-day CPET in [ME/CFS]: translating reduced oxygen consumption [...], Keller et al, 2024

I don't know the details well either, that might be part of it, but there are lots of different options for method that all produce different results, so it's probably a bit more complicated than that. I think that "mahalanobis" in the code above looks for the distances between two points...

Cardiopulmonary and metabolic responses during a 2-day CPET in [ME/CFS]: translating reduced oxygen consumption [...], Keller et al, 2024

So I found out R actually has a library/function for matching participants called matchit(). I tried it out, matching on age, bmi, and day one workload at AT. There are a lot of different parameters and methods for matching that I haven't explored, but this seems to work well. It's just...

    Puffy face

There was some discussion about puffy face as a symptom of ME/CFS: Is this something many people here experience? If so, do you experience it all the time, or only in a crash? I think I remember having puffy face a while ago, but it was temporary and might have been related to a medication or...

Development and validation of blood-based diagnostic biomarkers for [ME/CFS] using EpiSwitch®… 2025, Hunter et al. (Oxford Biodynamics)

Zooming in more, nothing special happened this morning. The stock went up from yesterday, but still lower than two days ago. And the paper above, if it's the right one, was published in September, so I don't know why it would make the stock surge today.
