Funny thing happened then. I sat on the phone and it somehow sent the post. Try again.
He might have been advised to study Shorter more closely. I am serious, for once.
The problem in assuming a one-to-one coincidence between neurasthenia and chronic fatigue is that the diagnosis was used in a...
One has to commend Sharpe's unsuspected self awareness. In speaking of "special ethics" he presumably has in mind the sense "belonging specifically to a particular person or place".
I have edited the post to include the reference. It was one of those situations of get it finished and posted or it won't get done.
On reflection I think I can justify the post as being not off topic. It indicates clearly how personal experience and philosophy may affect ones views of...
I know it's off topic but I can't resist posting this to show what we're up against.
"In his paper, Dr Shorter did not mention the religious dimension. If the proposition is acceptable that the language you have determines the way you think,we are now in a period of transition from a religious...
What a coincidence. I have recently been wondering whether Wellcome Foundation has an agenda, or just too much money. Iwas struck by the fact that Wessely's and also David's early groundbreaking work was funded by Wellcome Foundation grants. We must be grateful for their generosity.
Edit I have...
Is there not a paper written by Sharpe in 1997 stating that CFS is merely neurasthenia with or without added anxiety and/or depression.
Perhaps he should believe patients when they tell him their views of that.
This seems to be an unduly legalistic approach to what is in part an ethical problem. One would have thought that in the event of doubt there should be apresumption in favour of disclosure
I suppose all you quick witted people will have seen the connection between SouthWales and Sheffield.Coal and steel. When they closed the heavy industry people were put on invalidity benefit to massage unemployment figures. Then came the time that they wanted to remove invalidity benefit. They...
Looking back at the original post, what is it about Sheffield University. It has seven participants. This appears excessive. It's even more than Cardiff. Who was paying for their research.?
Is itjust me, or are those MRC guidelines defective. On second thoughts, I know I am.
1.4.4. on p9 provides for disclosure of "Unremunerated involvement with any organisation named in the grant or which might benefit from the outcome of the research that are not mentioned in the application..."...
It is interesting to note all the anecdotal reports of adverse effects. This would suggest either that there exists a clear subgroup for whom sertraline is beneficial, or clear warning of risk must have been given to obtain informed consent for treatment.
Like everyone else, I am pleased to hear that Tal's health has improved, but I would endorse Joel's view that Sertraline should be viewed with suspicion.
Many years ago I was prescribed sertraline along with another drug and told that the sertraline was effectively to enhance the antiviral...
It does seem strange. In another discipline every third year undergraduate will learn about subconscious ex post facto reasoning. How can leading researchers be unaware of potential for bias and the consequent need for disclosure?
This all makes me wonder whether there is any management, in a large trial, of questions of COI.
Someone ought to be specifically tasked wth collecting, collating and updating COI information. They should then have to sign off on the declaration for any paper submitted for publication. Just...
