Studentship in process: A Mixed Method Exploration of the Association between Autism and Central Sensitivity Syndromes, Sarah Grant, KCL

The hardest thing is that as a child/young person/young adult I used physical activity to cope with my autism problems. I used to love going out cycling (thought nothing of doing a 50 mile ride over the Blackdown Hills in Somerset, where I lived). I also loved hiking and camping. This is what I...

Studentship in process: A Mixed Method Exploration of the Association between Autism and Central Sensitivity Syndromes, Sarah Grant, KCL

The first and second parts of her PhD seem very problematic given the issues with defining appropriate criteria for these 'CSS' disorders, the fact many autistic people only receive their diagnosis in adulthood (so many remain undiagnosed) and the issue of underdiagnosing females with autism...

Studentship in process: A Mixed Method Exploration of the Association between Autism and Central Sensitivity Syndromes, Sarah Grant, KCL

I also am autistic and have M.E. However, I was diagnosed with M.E. a couple of decades earlier than when I received my NHS autism diagnosis. I usually say that my M.E. began after a severe upper respiratory disease which I had at age 25, when breast-feeding my second baby (I also had a 2 year...

If this is the case then the GP(s) haven't read the full recommendations! See below [bolding mine] This recommendation may not apply to Those with severe symptoms, as few were included in the studies reviewed. However, there is no clear evidence on how to attribute symptoms to SCH reliably...

    GET/GAT being misrepresented as 'pacing'?

When my daughter plugs in the hoover my cats run away. When I plug in the hoover they just sit still and look at me - knowing the probability of me actually using it is very remote...

Do ME symptoms fit with the faulty energy metabolism hypothesis?

This is also true for me - when in PEM. However, at the time of using my muscles for a specific physical activity the immediate fatigability is in the muscles I am using (e.g., arm or leg).

Do ME symptoms fit with the faulty energy metabolism hypothesis?

Yes, definitely (for me too)! If I overdo things on a 'better day' than I find it hard to go to sleep as I feel mentally 'wired' but physically tired. But the 'crash', extreme worsening of all my ME symptoms (physical and cognitive) happens the next day - only after sleeping - sometimes...

Do ME symptoms fit with the faulty energy metabolism hypothesis?

This is exactly how I would describe my sympoms with regard to fatigue and PEM.

David Tuller crowdfund: Trial By Error: Reporting on ME/CFS and Related Controversies

I've used the Cashplus Prepaid 'Flexiplus' Mastercard in the past: https://www.cashplus.com/pricing/ As I rarely used it, it was most economical for me to pay the £1 charge per transaction with no monthly charges, but there are other options available. It was very convenient to use as the...

UK: 'Claimants health put at risk by fit note scandal' B & W News

I wouldn't usually post the news from the Benefits and Work website, but this item will be relevant to anyone claiming ESA or UC. From 26th March updates: In spite of the risk to claimants’ health, the DWP are wilfully discouraging doctors from issuing fit notes to employment and support...

    Westminster Health Forum

I just wanted to bring to the attention of UK members that there are opportunities to obtain complimentary (free) tickets to the regular Westminster Health Forum conference days. These usually take place 9 am - 1 pm in London, but occasionally they are delivered in other cities. An example of a...
