How to deal with Unexpected stresses

 that is so hard @Hell..hath..no..fury... . I hope they work out what's wrong soon and it's something they can sort quickly. It's so frustrating not being able to be there in the way we want/need to be for our loved ones!

Whether to have a flu vaccination

I am at fairly low risk of developing the flu. However some of my husband's work colleagues have kids and come into work spluttering and sneezing. Catching the flu, although I may only have fairly minor symptoms for a few days, usually triggers an ME "crash" lasting a good couple of months. I...

Review: Chronic fatigue syndrome and quality of life, 2018, Roberts

A questionnaire I was asked to fill in phrased the sex question something like this: "How often do you enjoy sex? " My response was along the lines of - "question is unclear, do you mean 1) how often do I have sex? or 2) how often do I have sex and really enjoy it? Because those two...

Right. So where you tell 'em you can't work, but want to You can't socialise, but want to You can't peruse hobbies, but want to Most of your relationships have broken down isn't enough? Discussing your sex life, or lacking it will add to that? What if you're single, have taken a vow of...

An Introduction To ME By Dr Hng

My GP barely has time to listen to my health issues (even though I only go in with one thing at a time when I absolutely have to), never mind time to read about someone else's.

“Guidelines for ME/CFS outdated and dangerous”

Sadly, these days she also needs to add central sensitization to the list. :( Although why "they" keep coming up with new theories to promote a therapy when that therapy clearly doesn't work is beyond me.

Bridging Exercise Science, Cognitive Psychology, and Medical Practice: Is “Cognitive Fatigue” a Remake of “The Emperor’s New Clothes”?

Perhaps they should just stop and recognize that fatigue as a subject is too broad. Instead of trying to find common areas to address in all patients with diseases who have an ill defined "fatigue" as a symptom, they simply tackle the underlying problem? They would do better, in my opinion, to...

Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME) or What? An Operational Definition, 2018, Frank Twisk

I know it was asked of @Graham , but I definitely experience this & some places are worse than others. I tended to put it down to my brain trying to filter out the background noise, the artificial light, the mental effort involved in keeping your balance while not bumping into people..... The...

Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME) or What? An Operational Definition, 2018, Frank Twisk

From my scan of it that seems relevant. My consultant tried to.out it down to lack of concentration, but I always correct him and explain that is is more like a processing issue.

Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME) or What? An Operational Definition, 2018, Frank Twisk

I don't know if this is the same thing - when I've really pushed my luck I occasionally experience a tiny delay...my leg moves, but it's almost as there there's a slight hesitation and I notice it, rather than I need to focus in it to get it to move. Like @Jenny TipsforME says, if my legs are...

Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME) or What? An Operational Definition, 2018, Frank Twisk

For me, no. I do still occasionally drive, under supervision if I haven't driven for a while, but I avoid conversations and can't play music or the radio. It's not the control of the vehicle that's the issue - I used to drive a lot as part of my job and was used to hopping in and out of...

Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME) or What? An Operational Definition, 2018, Frank Twisk

I think I agree. Having experience of "fatigue" as a symptom of both Hashimoto 's and anaemia, they feel rather different to ME. Of all the symptoms of PEM and pushing beyond the boundaries, "fatigue" would be quite far down the list.

ME mentioned in Sunday Times (UK) article about BBC presenter Kirsty Young's fibromyalgia

Unfortunately, there are ME patients who also embrace the psychological, post traumatic, repressed memory schtick. Now, please don't think I am mocking those who have suffered past traumas here. Not at all. When I first "met" many of you guys, it was after my total disgust at a thread on one...

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy for MuScle Disease (ACTMuS): Protocol for a two-arm randomised controlled trial of a brief guided self-help ACT prog

Now, I've thought about it some more what did this guy mean by: My dogs couldn't speak any human language, but that certainly doesn't mean they don't understand it. Try saying the word "crisp" in my house and see what happens! The Invisible Dog understands a fairly wide range of words, many...

Really? What an ignorant fool! When my father died his dog became very, very depressed. He wouldn't eat, wouldn't interact and be was normally a really friendly, happy go lucky dog. My own first dog became very, very ill with a mystery condition and had to be hospitalised. Luckily it was at...

BMJ: Pressure grows on Lancet to review “flawed” PACE trial

i agree. For a brief summary we probably have plenty of clear material. The problem is not that we don't have enough to criticize, it's knowing which points to include when. However, this is such a clear example of introduced bias. How can it be possible for them to be so ignorant of human...

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy for MuScle Disease (ACTMuS): Protocol for a two-arm randomised controlled trial of a brief guided self-help ACT prog

This is exactly why I believe so much of this stuff is inherently very dangerous. The patient is already struggling with a health issue, be it "physical" or "mental" and the therapist barges in and undermines their self belief and their coping strategies. All done without necessarily having the...
