    How do you pace?

I think this is an aspect of all these therapies with a psycho-somatic viewpoint that should get more attention. I think they really have the potential to mess with peoples minds and make them feel bad. I have not had to go through any of them myself, I have only read about them on the...

    How do you pace?

Same! It's really hard! I have little advice to offer, mostly a bit of understanding and sympathy. I have pretty good physical functioning so I go on walks a few times a day and do small things around the house. Often as soon as I get on a bit higher energy level I want do more things and fall...

Should we change our name: 'ME/CFS Skeptic'?

One disadvantage of the new name is that it is very similar to "ME/CFS Research". https://medium.com/@cfs_research https://bsky.app/profile/cfsresearch.bsky.social That blog seems to be run by the same guy that runs https://www.reddit.com/r/mecfs. He seems to be pretty naive about bad...

Patients with severe ME/CFS need hope and expert multidisciplinary care, 2025, Miller et al

https://virology.ws/2025/07/23/tria...-boothby-oneill-boothby-oneills-mum-responds/ Yes! Academic speak for "you're stupid, dishonest and harm people". It should be said, in just that way. That might influence the academic debate. My people (the Swedish) have a saying for statements like this...

Paul Garner on Long Covid and ME/CFS - BMJ articles and other media.

Do we know about Garners views on ME/CFS and mind-over-body therapies from before his episode of post-infection fatigue? (Maybe it's somewhere in this thread; I haven't read it all.) It seems so unlikely to me that he suddenly developed this strong conviction and a will to devote his life to...

Preprint A Proposed Mechanism for ME/CFS Invoking Macrophage Fc-gamma-RI and Interferon Gamma, 2025, Edwards, Cambridge and Cliff

This gentleman recently had a presentation on the Youtube channel of the NSU Institute for Neuro-Immune Medicine on the topic "Science Behind Chemical Sensitivity": I decided to not watch the video because his homepage where he peddles supplements looks really quacky...

Priced out: Some Long COVID and ME specialists charge high prices for concierge care, The Sick Times

Apparently in the USA the term "osteopathic medicine" refers to a tradition that has evolved and shed most of its pseudo-science origins and embraced normal evidence based medicine. Those medical schools give a proper MD degree. I don't know how much of the old pseudo-science that is left. A...

Yes, you're right. The data for the diagram must be from Table 1 of that article.

Trial Report Randomised controlled trial of patient education to encourage graded exercise in CFS, 2001, P Powell, R P Bentall, F J Nye, R H Edwards

This study is notable because the psycho-somatic proponents tried to make a fuss about it being excluded from the NICE 2021 review. See this thread for example. The reason for its exclusion seems to be given in the document Evidence reviews for the non- pharmacological management of ME/CFS:

Use of EEfRT in the NIH study: Deep phenotyping of PI-ME/CFS, 2024, Walitt et al

Can we be sure that this button clicking computer game was not devised with the intent to test psychologists? If you take it seriously and write papers about it that's a strong indication that you're a moron?

Use of EEfRT in the NIH study: Deep phenotyping of PI-ME/CFS, 2024, Walitt et al

It's really silly, isn't it? Their little clicking test. How can anyone think it says anything substantial about such a fundamental thing as a person's attitude towards effort? Is this test used in other contexts too? Is it a big deal? Why is it taken seriously at all?

Thirty Minutes to Transform Care: A Mixed-Methods Study on Brief Psychosomatic Education for Unexplained Symptoms 2025 Sioni et al

I actually find it refreshingly honest that they use the term "psychosomatic" instead of one of the popular euphemisms like "functional neurological" that seem designed to hide what they are really taking about!

James Coyne on poor British and Dutch fatigue studies

I just happened to listen to this old presentation. He tells a story that goes something like this: He had patients with depression who had fatigue. He gave them small tasks such as to go to a social gathering or have a short chat with a stranger. It was hard for them but it made them feel...

    Lightning Process - discussion thread

One thing that has stricken me: The positive LP testimonials seem to always sound very generic and non-specific about what it is in LP that actually help and what they did in the course. No details are given. They focus on how bad they felt before and how good LP made them feel. It make them...
