New ruling on Lightning Process from British Advertising Standards Authority

So these rulings don't stay on-line any more? That seems odd to me. Thanks to the MEA.

Trial By Error: What's Going On, BMJ Best Practice?

Weird stuff. The BMJ seems pretty institutionally against us. I think that they care about Wessely's reputation (and want to avoid acknowledging their own failings).

A general thread on the PACE trial!

The reporting of harms is better in PACE than in most similar trial, and to me it looks like they didn't have the sort of problems with harm within PACE than patients often report from their experiences outside of clinical trials. Tom Kindlon has done stuff on PACE and harms, eg: From 2011...

NICE looking for lay member for persistant pain guideline committee - closing date 22nd November

PS: Apparently people get paid £150 a day, but have to be able to attend meetings in London (less than one a month).

A general thread on the PACE trial!

There are a lot of influential and powerful people who do not want PACE to 'fall'. The fact that they do not seem to be able to defend PACE should matter more than it does, but all we can do is keep pushing them. There are meant to be ways that evidence is collected and assessed, like Cochrane...

Guardian 15 Nov 2017 | 'Scientists make first ever attempt at gene editing inside the body'

Never mind curing an illness, when do I get my mutant X-men powers? We can be GODS!!! Actually, it's more likely that those with control of this technology will turn the rest of us into docile servants, to cure us of all our distressing and unwanted thoughts. We must destroy them now, for the...

A general thread on the PACE trial!

I didn't actually spot the reference to PACE itself in that. Lots of the research which is claimed to show that CBT and GET are evidence based treatments for CFS suffer from the problem of being nonblinded trials relying on subjective self-report outcomes. It's possible for therapists to...

Join the Chronic Illness Inclusion Project focus group - UK only

Thanks. I joined this a while back, but haven't found time to contribute to it yet. The people running it seem good.

UK: Disability benefits (ESA and PIP) - news and updates up to end of 2020

I do not know how people without a support network can be expected to survive in the UK if they fall ill.

Can physical assessment techniques aid diagnosis in people with CFS/ME? A diagnostic accuracy study, 2017, Perrin et al

I got some free reflexology for a while. Probably the most useful medical intervention I've ever had for CFS, just because it was quite a pleasant thing to do. [edit: In no way am I saying that I think providing reflexology would be a good use of resources!]

13 Nov 2017 | Tuller & Lubet: 'Trial By Error: The Surprising New BMJ Best Practice Guide'

I can see the benefit of requiring PEM, and it seems like this symptom should be useful for distinguishing 'CFS' from a number of other conditions which cause fatigue... but even there, it seems that different people have different ideas about what PEM is, how it should be diagnosed, etc. Also...

NICE looking for lay member for persistant pain guideline committee - closing date 22nd November

Esther Crawley talk at TEDxBristol, Thurs 2nd Bristol - "Disrupting Your View Of ME"

I don't, so am keen on getting suggestions on how to best address her talk. I'm stuck in a quandary, and I don't know what to advise. Which is frustrating... and Crawley has me feeling more than a little irritable about it all.

Esther Crawley talk at TEDxBristol, Thurs 2nd Bristol - "Disrupting Your View Of ME"

Oh, that's all you want us to prove... keep it to the bare minimum?! I agree that it's worth focussing on the strongest points, but there's a lot of uncertainty, even around something like the Lightning Process, never mind FITNET. Going in with assertions that they harm patients and/or are...

Esther Crawley talk at TEDxBristol, Thurs 2nd Bristol - "Disrupting Your View Of ME"

I got asked to look over an e-mail someone wanted to send to Ted, so am finally forcing myself to sit through this talk. Notes as I got through. Crawley TedX01 This Tedx video is hilarious. Who told her to speak like that? LOL at her facial expressions too... it's like badly done pantomime...

Unrest - reviews and general articles

The article can be accessed if you turn scripts off on that page. It's not very good or interesting, but could be worth. Probably not worth reading imo. It looks like it is written from an Indian perspective. edit - Here's the intro and conclusion:
