What they mean by evidence based medicine.

This is what I think about when thinking about N=1 data, or data from a specific patient or data point. The main things about EBM is its about reliability as generalisations, which is ranked in various ways. I am very concerned however that, as you point out @Snow Leopard , its not always...

What they mean by evidence based medicine.

The problem is all those terms are already in use, it would might just add to the confusion. The issue here seems to be that the term EBM is used as a shorthand, and the details that explain its relevance, or lack thereof, are generally skipped. "Evidence-based" can be everything from the best...

What they mean by evidence based medicine.

As I see it they typically do medical political rhetoric, rather than medical science. Its about persuading people in general, not developing sound data and showing how this explains things.

What they mean by evidence based medicine.

Evidence based medicine is ranked medicine, ranked for likely reliability. Anecdotal evidence is on the ranking scale, but its the lowest rung. However as we know much of the "highest ranking, gold standard" stuff is still garbage science. Its not a perfect system and some groups play the system...

The Deformability of Red Blood Cells in Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS) - Thesis, Brendan Robert Schmidt, 2019

I am talking local pharmacies and health food shops, including big chains. The natural products in Australia are often different from other countries, we have many of our own manufacturers, but I guess its more because for some reason people think alpha tocopherol is OK, and its cheaper. Its not...

DHA is needed for brain health, and EPA can result in lower inflammation. Both long chain omega-3s.

The Deformability of Red Blood Cells in Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS) - Thesis, Brendan Robert Schmidt, 2019

This is impossible to give a firm answer to because its entirely variable. Its an unstable result, possibly due to large numbers of hormonal and other influences. That is its subject to lots of interference including feedback loops, not all of which are probably identified yet ... just a guess...

Australia: Say NO to the cashless debit card!

They have a range of options, but only one works for me as a mostly housebound person.

That was at least eight years after we stopped communicating. I wonder if he actually listened to me? I doubt he would have admitted it, he was quite hostile to contrary views.

The Deformability of Red Blood Cells in Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS) - Thesis, Brendan Robert Schmidt, 2019

I have spent weeks trying to buy quality vitamin E. Nearly all of it is synthetic alpha tocopherol now, and the rest is "natural" alpha tocopherol. All pharmacists and health food stores in my area no longer seem to sell quality vitamin E. Alpha tocopherol is actually worse than useless, as it...

The Deformability of Red Blood Cells in Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS) - Thesis, Brendan Robert Schmidt, 2019

I had this debate with him back then, maybe around 2000. He was primarily recommending omega-6 oils such as evening primrose oil, at least at that time, and I pointed out this could be very dangerous. He was not interested in the biochemistry, he liked his pet theory. We did not get along, and...

Australia: Say NO to the cashless debit card!

I will have to give my card to a third party, then the PIN, totally violating security. There is currently no way around this. Over time, and multiple support workers, many people will wind up with my PIN, so I will have to keep changing it ... and I already cannot remember passwords and PINs.

Australia: Say NO to the cashless debit card!

This is prohibited by my landlord's agents. They do not allow anyone to know their bank details. I strongly suspect that they have been targeted by criminals in the past. Bank systems are frequently hacked, and accounts drained. There are options that might allow me to pay my rent under the new...

Australia: Say NO to the cashless debit card!

This system has the potential to result in me not being able to pay my rent. My landlord does not accept the kinds of payments that Centrelink would permit. I only have one payment option, and if this is not available I will become homeless unless I can opt out of this program.

Cell-Based Blood Biomarkers for Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome: Missailidis et al Feb 2020

One of my concerns is that ME might turn out to be some kind of spectrum disorder, and that we share hundreds of potential biomarkers but no biomarker is core to the disease.

Cell-Based Blood Biomarkers for Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome: Missailidis et al Feb 2020

The real test will be specificity with respect to immune and mitochondrial disorders. However, though on the odds this test will fail like all the others, this is what we might see on what will be the eventual successful test. We have to wait for replication and further testing.

ME/CFS in UK medical textbooks (Psychiatry)

NOS, not otherwise specified, is an open diagnosis, and comes in many flavours. I do know some ME patients have accepted a diagnosis of depression just to get disability benefits though.

ME/CFS in UK medical textbooks (Psychiatry)

Its a pity they do not use degradable paper. Otherwise it could be in pride of place on a little shelf in the lavatory. Unfortunately most paper today will just clog the plumbing.
