I don't blame people for being sceptical at all. But I think we've got to be careful not to express opinion as fact, and not to put a spin on words that goes way beyond what they actually say.
I think the signs are very hopeful but I agree that we'll just have to wait and see. I hope we won't...

I think you're doing those scientists in the CMRC who believe that ME is entirely physical a great disservice here. It seems clear now that there are quite a few, and that they're trying to turn things around. I don't think it helps us to see the CMRC as a blob consisting entirely of BPS people...
Not all all - Esther Crawley was the deputy chair and has just been replaced by Chris Ponting. But the CMRC didn't have a hand in PACE and don't lock anyone up.
I'm a bit confused by your post. Simon was talking about Chris Ponting, who is the new deputy head at the CMRC, not its head. PACE isn't on the CMRC's books and never has been. The CMRC has never locked people up. Are we talking about the same thing?
He has about 4,000 words on the Mental Elf where it's clear he's neither - continuing to praise PACE, even when people with a tenth of his academic training are shouting its problems in his face.
I agree it's good to have some sessions closed to protect early results and foster networking but otherwise, I'd like to see patients free to attend the talks.
...according to today's announcement about the CMRC's new purpose, objectives and values:

Should be interesting...
There were some good people on that, IIRC, who were critical of the bad things in MEGA. This whole thing makes me wonder if their arrival on the scene and what they said helped change things.
If so, hats off to them! :trophy@
