Recursive ensemble feature selection provides a robust mRNA expression signature for ME/CFS, 2021, Metselaar et al

The whole CAMDA dataset used the Reeves et al. (2005) criteria. I'm not sure whether it was possible to select patients in any other way using this dataset. Every paper looks like it used the criteria. It was frustrating. The data was analysed in a special conference at the time with lots of...

Recursive ensemble feature selection provides a robust mRNA expression signature for ME/CFS, 2021, Metselaar et al

This used the CAMDA data set which used the Reeves et al. (2005) very odd operationalisation of the Fukuda et al. criteria, the so-called empiric criteria. These gave a prevalence of 2.54% for the population. A lot probably have primary psychiatric problems rather than ME/CFS. I consider them...

News about Long Covid including its relationship to ME/CFS 2020 to 2021

Possibly more a curiosity than anything else. This is from their January 2021 newsletter so a little old at this stage. https://www.improvediagnosis.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/ImproveDx-1.12.2021.pdf [..]

The influence of the biopsychosocial (BPS) view of ME/CFS in government guidelines and medical practice in different countries (past and present)

It would take me a long time to describe things properly in the Rep. of Ireland. We don’t really have any M.E. or CFS clinics partly because we stopped pushing for them after seeing what happened in the UK: the public health system here tends to copy to a extent the NHS. There was a national...

Association between CFS and suicidality among survivors of Middle East respiratory syndrome over a 2-year follow-up period, 2021, Ahn

I can't see any CFS criteria being mentioned, so I'm not sure whether the patients are well-defined CFS patients or not. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7888998/

The influence of the biopsychosocial (BPS) view of ME/CFS in government guidelines and medical practice in different countries (past and present)

Yes, I think the centralised NHS and NICE system was likely a big reason why CBT and GET took over in the UK. But a large percentage of people in the UK in general seem very attached to the NHS: they stand up for it more than virtually anything else. It certainly can have its benefits...

The influence of the biopsychosocial (BPS) view of ME/CFS in government guidelines and medical practice in different countries (past and present)

It didn’t recommend it in a way that was similar to the NICE guidelines where they were the only therapies and nearly the whole focus of the main guidelines.

The influence of the biopsychosocial (BPS) view of ME/CFS in government guidelines and medical practice in different countries (past and present)

Yes, lots of doctors around the world have had all sorts of odd views about ME/CFS/whatever but a big problem was the RCTs apparently showing evidence for CBT, GET, etc. They are seen as the highest form of evidence in EBM.

The influence of the biopsychosocial (BPS) view of ME/CFS in government guidelines and medical practice in different countries (past and present)

If one takes media coverage, quite a bit of coverage from the UK in the last 10-15 years would mention graded exercise and CBT, even if they weren't the main reason for the article, more than in most countries including the US it seemed. As I say, hopefully things will improve with the updated...

The influence of the biopsychosocial (BPS) view of ME/CFS in government guidelines and medical practice in different countries (past and present)

Well you did say the situation was "just as bad in the US" so I thought it was worth responding that I'm not convinced. A lot of people with very severe ME will likely face a lot of difficulties pretty much anywhere at the moment if they look for support but one can't necessarily extrapolate...

The influence of the biopsychosocial (BPS) view of ME/CFS in government guidelines and medical practice in different countries (past and present)

This thread has been split from a thread discussing a book about Ron Davis: The Puzzle Solver by Tracie White I've been following ME/CFS research and news and reading forums for over 25 years. I think that the UK has played a much bigger part internationally in psychologising the condition and...

News about Long Covid including its relationship to ME/CFS 2020 to 2021

With a bit of work, I’ve managed to get many if not most questionnaires I wanted. Basically, when they are discussed often a sample question or two is mentioned. Putting strings into Google often results in either the questionnaire or more sample questions. Often the full questionnaire turns up...

The ONS (UK) figures are being challenged as too high see thread here: (it’s on children but the same sort of argument would apply to adults).
