MDVIP : New Study Suggests Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Is Not in Your Head; It's in Your Gut

Starts of OK in describing ME/CFS by distinguishing it from chronic fatigue, but then gets lots wrong too, not mentioning PEM by name and underplaying it as increased exhaustion. And then this:

Lilly says Alzheimer's drug slows clinical decline in mid-stage trial

Newspaper headlines in at least 2 UK papers today say the drug slows development of dementia by 'up to 60%'. Surely that's misleading exaggeration, and presumably must have come from a press statement from the researchers or the drug company.

Poll - Have You Ever Believed In Psychosomatic Illness?

AI would have to get a whole lot cleverer than it is now if it's going to decide the BPS ideology is trash. I can't see how it will do that given the problems most humans have with seeing through it.

    Pressure Therapy

By googling, the nearest I could find was this: Lymphoedema compression therapy Compression therapy provides graduated, even pressure, which won't constrict your limb. It will be carefully chosen, with you, by your lymphoedema therapist. _____________ It also talks about compression garments to...

Contesting the psychiatric framing of ME/CFS, 2017, Spandler and Allen

Completely agree, Hubris. If someone has a genuinely psychiatric illness, then psychiatry is the logical specialism, they are regarded as genuinely sick, and treatment is at least attempting to address their actual problem. ME/CFS is a different category altogether. It's regarded by psychs...

Poll - Have You Ever Believed In Psychosomatic Illness?

I think that's the key point. Psychosomatic illness isn't usually used to describle symptoms with a known traumatic origin, it's used for people who have no known past or present trauma who have symptoms without a current physiological explanation. Because the psychiatrists and psychologists...

Contesting the psychiatric framing of ME/CFS, 2017, Spandler and Allen

I have glanced through some of the rest of the article. I think there is some good discussion of issues like patients' not being believed, and forced treatment of seriously ill pwME.

I'm only part way through reading this, but I got stuck at this paragraph on page 4. Crossposted. I agree with @InitialConditions.

Poll - Have You Ever Believed In Psychosomatic Illness?

Without discussing the individual case, as I'm not qualified to suggest what treatment might be appropriate, I'd question calling it an 'illness'. Rather a symptom of psychological distress/trauma. I think of psychosomatic illness as a term used for diseases and syndromes like ME/CFS where I...

Anomalies in the review process and interpretation of the evidence in the NICE guideline for (CFS & ME), 2023, White et al

No good reason, but when does that stop them. CFS is redefined as all sorts of things. MUS, PPS, FII, FND, SSD, MUPS...

Not so odd if they think ME/CFS is a form of FND = Conversion disorder.

Published poems by Veronica Ashenhurst, who has Severe ME

Such a beautiful and heartbreaking poem, @Veronica. Thank you for sharing it. On a lighter note, I tried some years ago experimenting with poetry forms. The sestina is incredibly difficult. I salute your achievement.
