    My podcast: Medical Error Interviews

Thanks @DokaGirl - with medical error so ubiquitous, many lives are impacted - and the chances for justice small as the system is set up to protect the error-maker.

    My podcast: Medical Error Interviews

Hi all, I've been working on this project for far longer then I thought it would take - turns out there is a lot more work involved then anticipated (while working and doing advocacy stuff and being sick) in creating a podcast. Nevertheless, I'm happy to finally be slowly rolling out the...

    Machine Learning-assisted Research on ME/CFS

@Jeff_w Could you show Dr. VanElzakker this post please? I strongly believe that Liver is an important part for a significant amount of patients along with the Vagus nerve. @mariovitali - super interesting that you've connected more dots of this puzzle. Did you mean to ask @Jeff_w to show...

Biomedical articles on MEpedia - purposes and pitfalls

I concur...except with... Personally, I want the information, even if anecdotal and/or n=1, so I can make an informed choice, while also waiting for the scientific process. Others may prefer to ignore anecdotal experiences while waiting for the scientific process. Both are valid...

Jen Brea: My ME is in remission

Nope, never heard of it so had to google it - my cortisol is all over the place so I think I'll ask my doc for this, thanks for sharing.

Jen Brea: My ME is in remission

Fwiw, I have an empty sella - and a 2 mm adenoma on my pituitary - it would not surprise me to ultimately find out that my spinal fluid squishing my pituitary is implicated in at least some of my symptoms (hypothyroid, and near hyper-testosterone).

HIV-1 infection alters energy metabolism in the brain:contributions to HIV-associated neurocognitive disorders, 2019, Cotto et al

I did not realize that. Presumably HIV is not the only exclusionary illness from getting a ME diagnosis. I wonder how many people with an 'exclusionary' illness and ME symptoms, and do not get the ME diagnosis?

HIV-1 infection alters energy metabolism in the brain:contributions to HIV-associated neurocognitive disorders, 2019, Cotto et al

Very interesting @Pyrrhus - I did not know there was such lack of clarity about ARVs and BBB and mitochondria, thanks for the info - makes me question my own regimen. Segue slightly: I know lots of pwHIV yet do not know any with ME diagnosis (post-HIV). Are you aware of any, come across any...

HIV-1 infection alters energy metabolism in the brain:contributions to HIV-associated neurocognitive disorders, 2019, Cotto et al

Well that was depressing reading for someone living with HIV. Save this: "...implementation of a ketogenic diet [88, 212, 213], intranasal insulin treatment [214], or exercise [215] coupled with use of anti-inflammatory drugs may provide therapeutic benefits to PLWH."

Public Ultra-Processed Diets Cause Excess Calorie Intake and Weight Gain: An Inpatient Randomized Controlled Trial of Ad Libitum Food Intake

Two thoughts: 1. Not so surprising based on my own experience 2. I lived most my life ad libitum

A Waste of 1,000 Research Papers

I like this comparison...made me chuckle... "...It’s as if they’d been “describing the life cycle of unicorns, what unicorns eat, all the different subspecies of unicorn, which cuts of unicorn meat are tastiest, and a blow-by-blow account of a wrestling match between unicorns and Bigfoot,...”

A cluster analysis of serious adverse event reports after (HPV) vaccination in Danish girls and young women, Sept 2009 to Aug 2017, 2019, Ward et al

"...Our analysis identified a cluster of reports, likely media stimulated, with a focus on symptoms of CFS and POTS." Are they saying that these reported adverse reactions post HPV vaccine was just media caused hysteria among females?

    2 metabolic traps/2 types of ME/CFS

Maybe the severe have both traps? I concur, ME is most probably a spectrum disease. I recently learned there are really Alzheimer's diseases (plural).

Incomplete Healing as a Cause of Aging: The Role of Mitochondria and the Cell Danger Response (2019) Naviaux

Hhmmm - I kind of thought most people with ME look younger then their age, which would be the opposite of the hypothesis.

The Province (Vancouver): Better treatment needed for 77,000 British Columbians with ME

fwiw, Canada also has the highest MS rates in the world. Regardless of the accuracy of the ME data, the fact is that there is zero dollars in ME research funding and both the federal and provincial govts have failed Canadians with ME for decades. I'm not sure if they still do it the last few...

Anyone with sudden and violent stomach cramps ?

I periodically and without warning get similar symptoms - I've always attributed to some sort of wheat product I had eaten 12 - 18 hours earlier (because I usually avoid wheat products), as the symptoms seem to come when the food gets to my lower colon and then bam, in a matter of seconds I'm...
