Leonard Jason research finds that many young people have ME/CFS (Simon M blog)

If only 1 in 20 kids get a diagnosis, that means the other 19 got either no diagnosis (MUS?) or wrong diagnosis (probably depression / anxiety / etc). So the school nurses would probably think that their teen patients have a mood disorder, especially since the delayed response to exertion...

Chicago Health: Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Is Debilitating but Often Dismissed

I'm continually dismayed that journalists get so much wrong in their reporting. I thought their job was to report the facts, not an approximation or interpretation...or fabrication.

"The way of the tired person":life rules for the perpetually exhausted. Jo Walker, Jan 27 2020, The Guardian

I've talked to some folks that, in retrospect, attribute their pre-ME experience of chronic fatigue / tiredness for years as early / mild ME. But it doesn't sound like you @Dechi and @rvallee don't put your experiences under the ME rubric.

Investigation into cognitive behavioural therapy for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/Myalgic Encephalomyelitis, 2020, Clark

Imho, counsellors should not be giving advice. They can share information, or share what others have found helpful in similar situations - but counsellors should not be putting themselves on a knowledge power pedestal - they should be facilitating (process) the client's choice (content) how to...

Washington Post: Medical Mystery Story #2

"One gastroenterologist even suggested to Lopez that his wife, a nurse, might be poisoning him...but failed to order toxicology tests." "His primary care doctor at the time, Lopez said, was dismissive, telling him he was “anxious” and “working too hard.” It was an explanation he would hear from...

The Prevalence of Pediatric Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome in a Community-Based Sample (2020) Jason et al.

I suspect that because its children, many would rely on their parents to do the research etc. And unless they can discern the exertion = sickness a day or 2 later, it can be tough to figure out - or for a physician to pick up on (ignoring the over-psychsomatization of illnesses generally...

"...these symptoms can manifest months to years after the initial injury and as this cluster of symptoms hasn’t been previously grouped together, it often goes unidentified in the medical community." Slight aside...I just published an interview with a woman who had 100+ ECT (aka shock therapy...

Marijuana is risky for people taking common heart medications (Jan. 20, 2020) By Kaitlin Sullivan - NBC News

"...can interact with common heart medications, including statins and blood thinners..." Good reason to avoid statins and blood thinners, and not vice versa.

The Agenda - Trudie Chalder interview "You can't experience happiness if you don't feel sadness" Jan 2020

To parse the idea, I don't think experience of sadness is requisite to experience happiness. However I'd postulate, appreciation of happiness is increased the deeper / more frequent the sadness experience. I know I appreciate (emotionally) good (physical) days much more because I've had so...

David Tuller - Trial By Error: CBT Provides No Benefits to Advanced Cancer Patients, Study Finds

I also wonder how many depressions (there are more than one kind of depression) are caused by biological illness (cancer or other causing brain inflammation / toxicity / etc), not psychological factors? In this context, CBT for 'treating' depression is useless at best, and potentially harmful...
