United Kingdom: ME Research Collaborative (MERC) [was CMRC] news

We should not support any project that Harrison is leading. It is indeed psychiatry with a reductionist (neuro) bent.

Action for ME has joined S4ME

Sorry, @Alvin, this was not meant as a criticism of you at all. I thought it worth pointing out to all readers of the thread.

Action for ME has joined S4ME

I think this is a good point, @Barry. That core value could be emphasised much more.

Action for ME has joined S4ME

Can I point out that S4ME has never claimed to have "no censorship". We will censor rudeness, personal attacks, trolling behaviour, as per the rules. We will censor "ideas" if those ideas are racist, discriminatory, or they involve negatively characterising another member (e.g. I think you're an...

Action for ME has joined S4ME

You make a good point, @Invisible Woman. AfME still have quite a large membership, and at least some of that could be down to new patients/new referrals. People that aren't even aware of the concerns.

Article in French Newspaper «J'écris ma souffrance pour affirmer que je suis vivant malgré tout»

Thanks, @Cheshire, its interesting to compare. The New Zealand system is certainly NOT one of the best in the world - we're too small and poor - but we do seem to do quite well for our budget. The Australian one is much better imo, great care there, and good access for all. Aussies who whine...

Article in French Newspaper «J'écris ma souffrance pour affirmer que je suis vivant malgré tout»

(says something like The French health system is the most efficient and most widely encompassing on the planet). Is that true, French folks? Or only true if you compare the French system to the appalling US one?

Netherlands - Women in science are missing out on dozens of millions of euros

I didn't aggressively attack you, I merely stated that your statements will seem ridiculous to the next generation, and already do to many in the present one. If you want to make the extraordinarily strong claim that women are biologically less suited to senior academic positions than men, then...

Netherlands - Women in science are missing out on dozens of millions of euros

Like 1000x, @Alvin! It was barely a century ago when people believed that if you overeducated women, they would not be able to cope and could easily descend into madness. It sounds ridiculous now, doesn't it? Because we know better. But the claims made here by @sb4 will seem just as ridiculous...

    Psychosomatic jaw dysfunction

How delightfully ironic - profiling them as they do us! Have to disagree on the right wing thing. I think most of the psychoBS is originating from the left. Those groups are more in bed with the touchy-feely stuff. And the whole looking after your "wellbeing" with psyc services, IAPT and all. I...

    Psychosomatic jaw dysfunction

Thanks for posting. Its not surprising to read of yet another poor group of patients whose problems are being inappropriately psychologised. What IS surprising is that this one dentist - Peschke - is actually speaking out against it in no uncertain terms!

    PACE trial data

Yea, wasn't this one of the reasons given for not releasing it? Because they wanted to publish further studies? How can they do this now without revealing that they have access to the data? I wonder whether this is a win in a way. That they've at least given up on churning out more PACE BS.

Prof. Mella - Autoimmunity and metabolism in ME/CFS (lecture)

Good question! Mella says that a lot of PwMEs experience nausea. You wouldn't necessarily know if you were on the placebo, but you have a fairly good chance of knowing you're on the active drug.

S4ME: Submission to the public review on common data elements for ME/CFS: Problems with the Chalder Fatigue Questionnaire

Gosh, that's a stretch of the concept of PEM though. That makes it considerably broader - in a way that might make it even harder to define. (my symptoms are massively affected by infections too).

Guidance for commissioners of services for people with medically unexplained symptoms - 2017

PS Add to say I don't believe any of these things are the cause of FND either! I find those accusations objectionable too!

Guidance for commissioners of services for people with medically unexplained symptoms - 2017

@Tab Hoarder, thanks for your perspective - and welcome to the forum! (love your username, by the way ). I have also encountered a lot of FND people who are very comfortable with certain aspects of the psychostuff. Its seems to be acceptable when dressed up in one of two ways: 1. In...

Public "Integrative Personal Omics Profiles during Periods of Weight Gain and Loss", 2018, Synder et al

Totally. First, they assume that just because people can't lose weight through exercise alone, that exercise isn't helpful. Second, they assume that the only calories you lose through exercise are from the energy you burn from the activity itself. As you say, there seems to be pretty good...
