Metabolomic analyses reveal new stage-specific features of COVID-19, 2022, Hongling Jia et al

Abstract The current pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has affected >160 million individuals to date, and has caused millions of deaths worldwide, at least in part due to the unclarified pathophysiology of this disease. Identifying the underlying molecular mechanisms of COVID-19...

In less than 10 minutes, Stanford researchers isolate the rarest white blood cells

Stanford researchers quickly isolate rare, allergen-reactive white blood cells, called basophils, using microfluidics and magnets. The new device could help revolutionize allergy diagnosis from the current slow and painful process of skin tests and oral food challenges...

Comparing Operationalized Approaches for Substantial Reduction of Functioning in CFS and ME, 2022, Wiedbusch and Jason

My disability benefits claim early on (w/o cognitive impairment and PEM at the time) was based on my history of relapsing-remitting M.E, and not 'mild, moderate or severe' category.

Chronic Lyme disease, post-treatment Lyme disease syndrome (PTLDS)

Desperate sufferers who believe they have exhausted the therapies offered by conventional medicine sometimes look elsewhere for help. They often take their cues from the media, which trumpet each small trial result as a major breakthrough, even in the absence of rigorous scientific testing.

Chronic Lyme disease, post-treatment Lyme disease syndrome (PTLDS)

@duncan I'm not comparing it to bleach. My biggest issue is the overly misdiagnosing of patients who are mislead by militant social media groups. I have not walked in the shoes of chronic lyme patients, but I had a best friend who was misdiagnosed and had a PICC line inserted for 9...

Long Covid in the media and social media 2022

Québec ME/CFS patients deserve access to new long-Covid clinics, advocates say. The network of clinics will focus on long COVID and Lyme disease, but not myalgic encephalomyelitis, leaving patients with the complex illness feeling forgotten again...

Chronic Lyme disease, post-treatment Lyme disease syndrome (PTLDS)

Posts moved from this thread: The science of craniocervical instability and other spinal issues and their possible connection with ME/CFS - discussion thread Absolutely. The advocacy community commonly argues that chronic Lyme disease is grossly underdiagnosed and is responsible for an...

Gastrointestinal neoplasia: carcinogenic interaction between bile acids and Helicobacter pylori in the stomach, 2022, Madeline Alizadeh

Abstract Bile acids modulate cell functions in health and disease, however, the mechanisms underlying their actions on neoplastic cells in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract remain largely unknown. In this issue of the JCI, Noto et al. comprehensively analyzed how interactions between Helicobacter...

Iron deficiency linked to altered bile acid metabolism promotes Helicobacter pylori–induced inflammation–driven gastric carcinogenesis, 2022

Iron deficiency linked to altered bile acid metabolism promotes Helicobacter pylori–induced inflammation–driven gastric carcinogenesis, 2022, Jennifer M. Noto et al Abstract Gastric carcinogenesis is mediated by complex interactions among Helicobacter pylori, host, and environmental factors...

Multiple sclerosis: Greater prevalence of disease activity in women and disability accrual in men

Key clinical point: Women vs men with multiple sclerosis (MS) showed greater inflammatory disease activity up to menopausal age, whereas men vs women with MS showed greater disability accrual. Major finding: Women vs men had a 16% higher relapse rate and a higher estimated marginal mean of...

UK - Anyone know what the DWP/Capita etc are told about ME/CFS? assessors Decision MAkers

@JemPD I missed the point you made about proper wording and how it relates to M.E. My Disability Tax Credit renewal is not based on a diagnoses, but how my disability impairment affects my day to day life, so there isn't a specific guideline to M.E.

UK - Anyone know what the DWP/Capita etc are told about ME/CFS? assessors Decision MAkers

You could also add that physical energy expenditure negatively affects your cognitive impairment and vice versa. I described this in more detail when I filled out my Disability Tax Credit form and my GP approved it.

UK - Anyone know what the DWP/Capita etc are told about ME/CFS? assessors Decision MAkers

Yes but 'brain fog' is not very descriptive. It's a general term. My sister has Hashimoto and says she has 'brain fog' when she eats certain foods. I use the term cognitive impairment which describes having difficulty concentrating/remembering, learning new things and making decisions...

Storing excess ATP molecules helps cells to avoid protein aggregation

Budding yeast cells with high levels of ATP do not lead to abnormal aggregation of proteins (magenta), while mutant cells with low levels of ATP exhibit clumps of proteins (magenta). Taken together, Takaine et al.’s results suggest that ATP plays a role in stopping proteins from sticking...

High and stable ATP levels prevent aberrant intracellular protein aggregation in yeast, 2022, Masak Takaine et al

Abstract Adenosine triphosphate (ATP) at millimolar levels has recently been implicated in the solubilization of cellular proteins. However, the significance of this high ATP level under physiological conditions and the mechanisms that maintain ATP remain unclear. We herein demonstrated that...

Short-Term Magnesium Therapy Alleviates Moderate Stress in Patients with FM: A Randomized Double-Blind Clinical Trial, 2022, Nicolas Macian et al

Short-Term Magnesium Therapy Alleviates Moderate Stress in Patients with FM: A Randomized Double-Blind Clinical Trial, 2022, Nicolas Macian et al

Abstract Patients suffering from fibromyalgia often report stress and pain, with both often refractory to usual drug treatment. Magnesium supplementation seems to improve fibromyalgia symptoms, but the level of evidence is still poor. This study is a randomized, controlled, double-blind trial...

Question: what do you think is a reasonable time that passes between an infection and ME/CFS onset?

Sudden viral onset-->6 months was able to go to school and do some exercise (no PEM) but losing stamina-->'recovered' after 3 months, went back to work-->relapsed less than one month later--> was still able to do some light exercise without delayed typical PEM. My guess is that M.E was...
