CG: Amazed that lived experience counts for nothing amongst some. This has become like a hissing match in a girl school playground. It does a lot to reveal the complete lack of intellectual integrity and professionalism in this sort of discussion. Personal propaganda seems to be the only aim...

    Whitney Dafoe Updates

I may be wrong but I sense that this may be part of him getting better. He deserves to turn the corner.

I actually think there is justification for more outrage at smarmy self-satisfied innuendo that does harm than just incompetence that does harm. Nobody is comparing the harm but this sort of pretence that we can dispense with any sort of methodology and just all believe what we want to believe...

Trisha Greenhalgh on ME/CFS and Long Covid

I feel that there is something Zelig about what we are seeing now on social media and journal blogs. The Hot Club de PACE have themselves grown quiet, although I am not sure one can say that about spouses (?spice - no not spice). Now all is reverberation, as if in Chameleon Days. (Check out the...

Perhaps he is describing a new syndrome - we could call it Garner syndrome. A mind as sensitive to the breeze as thistledown is buffeted hither and thither by the tweeting of social media and the pinging of emails. As a result, symptomometers swing from zero to jangling infinity in some kind of...

This blog is appalling, @Esther12, Brian Hughes gives a good account. People die unnecessarily in a daily basis because this sort of loose canon talk is now acceptable in the pages of the BMJ and everyone joins in bullshitting. The man has a responsibility as a medical authority and particularly...

In-Depth Analysis of the Plasma Proteome in ME/CFS Exposes Disrupted Ephrin-Eph and Immune System Signaling, 2021, Hanson et al

https://www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fimmu.2019.01473/full Gives some background to Ephrins/Ephs. They seem to do a lot.

The Reification of the Clinical Diagnosis of ME/CFS as an Immune and Oxidative Stress Disorder: 2021, Maes et al

I wouldn't worry, the abstract indicates that this is pseudoscientific rambling and nothing more. Claiming that a few correlations can magically be turned into 'reification' using abstruse terms and methods gets us nowhere.

Dr Norman Swan: ME/CFS is more psychosomatic than long-COVID

But hang on, Dr Paul Garner has assured us that Long Covid is in fact completely psychosomatic and can be reversed by mobilising those autonomic reflexes in the brain. He has proved it by snapping out of it. I think these people are going to end up in a sorry mess. Sadly, misinformation will...

Targeting CD38 with Daratumumab in Refractory Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, 2020, Ostendorf et al.

Thanks for posting this. We had talked about using anti-~CD38 back in the 2000s after initial success with rituximab. The idea was shelved because `CD~38 was found on cardiac cells and people thought it would be toxic. From what I see this is a double case report. That may be enough to show the...

There will be careful checking but since the editor will have known what was likely to come the checking may not bhquite the sort of checking others might perform! I don't think people get paid for this sort of thing. There are plenty of self-important people happy to provide opinions. As Trich...

Explore - A Systematic Review of The Evidence Base for the Lightning Process - 2020 - by Phil Parker et al

I think that is pretty unlikely. If she had recently been involved as staff at KCL one would expect that to be prominent in her mini-bio.

Explore - A Systematic Review of The Evidence Base for the Lightning Process - 2020 - by Phil Parker et al

The profile gives a current affiliation. Aston will be an alumnus of King's and maybe the Psychosis Unit and that is a sort of affiliation. It is nevertheless pretty misleading to give a department as an affiliation. It would be a misrepresentation to suggest a current academic attachment.

Can we call ME/CFS a disease?

I can see what this guy is trying ti say but I think it would be foolish to muddle up the accepted meanings of terms any further in a desperate attempt to sound cosy for patients. I think he confuses two different words - the countable noun '(a) disease' and the generic noun 'disease'. They...

I am not sure that decided to submit the article necessarily gives the right impression of events. I strongly suspect that he was more or less invited to do so, maybe having mentioned his recovery to chums who are also chums with the editorial staff. That is usually how journal's work.

I wondered when the interviews were recorded and at what stage PG might have registered the comments on his blog. It almost sounds as if CG was driving the BPS message ahead and PG was cooling off. I can think of a long list of things that are not made better by exercise.

Paul Garner on Long Covid and ME/CFS - BMJ articles and other media.

It seems to me that certain medical people have not woken up to the fact that the habit of doctors dissing patients while communicating in what they think is their professional private space is no longer tolerable in the internet age. It was never justifiable but at least nobody much noticed...

Paul Garner on Long Covid and ME/CFS - BMJ articles and other media.

There aren't that many doctors, even amongst the BPS crowd, who quote the dotty ideas of a Norwegian PhD student in a BMJ piece. The subculture extends quite a way but that is by the bye.

Which is clearly not the case for someone who splurges their naive speculations in the BMJ.
