He also suggests that Cochrane followed their own protocol but one of the issues that Bob raised was that they failed to follow their own protocol. So I'm not sure that Tovey has a great grasp of the issues.
There is a more serious issue that he hasn't mentioned which is that their peer review...
I think if people are authors they have some responsibility for the conduct of the research particularly senior authors (as in senior academics attaching their names to the paper). So it seems worth pointing out to him that there are issues. Perhaps he will realize the issues and that being...
Wasn't there someone who suggested alcohol intolerance would be a good diagnostic marker for ME.
I do think some people do suddenly improve/get better the issue comes when they attribute whatever they happened to be trying at the time to the improvement and then try to sell it to others. I've...
I think this is one of the questions that needs to be addressed and perhaps even within a broad group of CFS. That is what is the nature of the 'fatigue' and is it likely to be caused by the same mechanisms or are there hints that it is different. The issue with a lot of the questionnaires is...
The EU has quite a few research programmes but I'm not sure about how much in medical research. They tend to be large research projects involving multiple institutions.
They have funded Euromene I think http://www.euromene.eu/index.html
I think that may be quite career and job dependant. It may also have changed as people have got older in having families.
I do think the body does change as we age.
I was wondering if there would be a peak effect if there is a genetic likelihood of getting a disease perhaps coupled to...
In terms of copyright this blog may be useful it also points to some image repositories.

If you find images that are public domain then they can be used or if they are released under a creative commons license they can also be...
I'm assuming that they have not come up with a way to test the validity of their analogy. I worry that they take a label of fatigue and use that to assert equivalence rather than looking at whether all fatigue is the same and thus whether a comparison may be valid. (Same with depression as...
We should remember that the research they are doing isn't on patients with ME but those treated with interferon alpha they are then trying to draw an analogy and I suspect have not done any work to validate if the analogy stands or is valid.
With such small amounts of data I'm not sure that any results will be meaningful. They use a cross validation techniques which is better than some we have seen.
Having quickly skimmed the paper I don't understand what they are doing.
They are using an unsupervised ML technique but combining this with disease models and taking into account the temporal stages of the disease. So it does look like something interesting.
Features appear to be from MRI...
White also providing some funding for the development of the protocol.
I wonder if they have withdrawn the protocol and hence any review from being published? The protocol was basically flawed anyway.
I think Winston said what he was told to say in a briefing. If he ever looked at the issue again he may realize they made a fool of him and lied to him. But that would be his own fault for regurgitating their arguments and not going through the arguments himself.
I think QMUL as an institution have acted very badly and that needs to reflect on the vice chancellor and the whole university council who failed to act. Bad researchers happen but institutions are responsible for maintaining governance. QMUL continue on their coverup and I think senior staff...
I think a number of authorities have been willing to look ridiculous rather than challenge PACE. There are obviously certain power structures in place that people don't want to challenge.
