Dr Alan Moreau's new, low-stress protocol for provoking PEM.[Thoughts?]

I think the third slide is a little confusing because the catagories seem to overlap but I guess people were told to choose the best fitting sentence. I also wonder if severity rather than some class may be significant in whether PEM is experienced. Has he reported the blood results? Did they...

Cochrane ME/CFS GET review temporarily withdrawn

I thought that Bob had referred to them using the alternative CFQ marking scheme which is possibly where the non-significant data comes in. In Fine they were using the binomial scheme and didn't get a significant result but then they wrote a letter saying it would be significant if they used the...

CD24 expression and B cell maturation shows a novel link with energy metabolism: potential implications for patients with ME/CFS, 2018, Mensah et al

I wondered if the comment on energy metabolism would relate to the recent work on metabolism but not had a chance to read yet.

Nick Brown looks at study on sexual harassment and 'CFS'

I guess the point in my mind was around structural reasons to believe variables may not be independent. This seemed to be what you were saying around variables of sexual harassment and abuse - I assume because harassment is often a precursor to abuse. So in these cases it seems like those...

Nick Brown looks at study on sexual harassment and 'CFS'

I thought the predictor variables should be independent? If I develop a model from data I would expect to have test and verification data sets to check the model that is learned so that gives a better idea that the model isn't just a feature of the particular training vectors that are used...

United Kingdom: Dr Suzanne O’Sullivan (BPS neurologist)

I wonder if its worth a complaint to the BBC about bias because its promoting one discredited view without question. I guess the program has to go out first.

Nick Brown looks at study on sexual harassment and 'CFS'

Reading the blog very quickly I think the regression explanation very interesting but I wonder if there is a more fundamental flaw with the quality of the data. I had thought there were serious concerns about the accuracy of retrospective surveys on things like abuse. I think I've read that the...

Yes we do try to look out for misleading names and everything looks right with your account.

Cochrane ME/CFS GET review temporarily withdrawn

I think it means that when a 'patent' title is put on someone their opinion doesn't count any more as they clearly have no knowledge of capacity to reason.

Cochrane ME/CFS GET review temporarily withdrawn

I'm not sure they have won the PR battle when their argument is they need to stop those nasty patients that doesn't read well. They make no attempt to explain why they believe the science behind the Cochrane review is correct just use it as an excuse to bash patients.

Cochrane ME/CFS GET review temporarily withdrawn

Is this a new category. I know I looked at their different groups a while ago and I don't remember seeing this one.

She also did a series of training videos for GPs that are worth a look if you want something to raise your blood pressure. Her attitude seemed to be that it is up to patients to prove a treatment is dangerous.

Cochrane ME/CFS GET review temporarily withdrawn

Tovey has known there are issues with this review for a very long time. Coyne complained to him about it and Tovey made excuses about the CoI issues that Coyne but ignored the other issues. To my mind he is the editor and is responsible for a failed editorial process. He is not a suitable person...

Cochrane ME/CFS GET review temporarily withdrawn

We should remember that Bob (Robert Courtney) produced really good comments around them giving PACE a clean bill of health and the outcome switching they did in their own review. They basically failed to answer those comments.

NICE guideline review: A list of appointees to the ME/CFS Guideline Committee has now been published

I suspect that someone seen as a clinical expert working in the area is not seen by NICE as having a conflict of interest otherwise NICE would never get any experienced clinicians. But I think instead its a case of arguing that these people have an existing prejudice that is likely to impact on...

    Re-Hydration

I have vague memories of some horrible electrolite based mix being prescribed for my daughter when she was dehydrated due to being sick. But I assume that is to replace some chemicals that are also lost. I also seem to remember someone recommending salted crisps as good for dehydration (not...

United Kingdom: ME Research Collaborative (MERC) [was CMRC] news

I thought the document felt quite strange and not very encouraging and was detailed in some working practices but didn't give a good overview (hence missing things like how meetings happen). Also I'm not keep on the use of a phone bridge things like skype of zoom are much easier to use. Its...

Ben Goldacre: Building RCTs into GP practice

I'm assuming there will also be something around different potential side effects or interactions with other drugs that patients take. If there is then it would make any such trials difficult. I'm wondering if he has issues with just saying that two drugs are roughly equivalent. But I'm...

    USA - NCHS/CDC Proposal for ICD-10-CM - adding SEID

We can argue about definitions for ever but they are not rooted in any form of science just clusters of symptoms that represent a guess. It is not clear what the overlaps are between definitions and more importantly how they map to mechanisms that we currently have very little idea about (just a...

David Tuller: Trial By Error: My Latest Letter to Archives of Disease in Childhood

One of the consequences of this is that it anyone reading the paper cannot use knowledge of the treatment to assess the methodology. So they cannot assess how the treatment interacts with the data collection methodology. Or in other words they are not provided with the information that the LP...
