Fatigue and the mind-body relation: A Lacanian exploration, Diserholt, 2020 (PhD thesis)

Oddly enough, one of the places where this kind of coursework took hold in the United States was in university film studies programs. Prior to 1977, you could count the number of degreed film programs in the U.S. on one hand. Then, Star Wars was released and George Lucas' attendance at USC's...

Fatigue and the mind-body relation: A Lacanian exploration, Diserholt, 2020 (PhD thesis)

Personally, I think that if ME/CFS were caused by a desire to escape from the pressures of life, the adult prevalence rate would be closer to 100%, rather than less than 0.5%. I haven't watched this, but here is the author discussing her work.

    Covid-19 vaccines and vaccinations

I would imagine that among the first people to get the vaccine would probably be the people giving the vaccine (granting that it seems to take 4 weeks to reach full effectiveness.) That would protect both the people giving the vaccine and the people they're giving it to. The risk of transmission...

    Trans-NIH ME/CFS Working Group Telebriefings 2020-2021 (next telebriefing March 30 2021)

At first I thought this meant that they were giving up on -omics testing, but it actually sounds like they figured out what -omics tests to continue, because they're more likely to be relevant to the disease.

BPS attempts at psychologizing Long Covid

Well, that's reassuring. At least we can rule out confirmation bias.

A personal letter to the NIH team researching ME/CFS about their PEM study, 2020

I've always liked how deftly Dr. Komaroff described the singular nature of PEM in a talk to the Massachusetts ME/CFS & FM Association in 2010: [my bolding for emphasis] Hopefully the people conducting these studies are talking to him and other long time experts and are listening to insightful...

Medicine Journal : Chronic fatigue syndrome - Stephen Perry 2020

I think it's a reference to the Star Trek episode "Miri," in which a 300-year old "young girl" refers to the era before her world was destroyed by a man-made plague as "The Before Time." [I once worked at a SF Bay Area company where some of the employees referred to the period before a...

    A community thermoregulation experiment

It's strange, but a couple of months before I got the upper respiratory infection that was quickly followed by the onset of ME, I experienced several unusually strong episodes of really intense shivering in response temperatures that I had well tolerated before. If this shivering indicated some...

    Design Your Own ME Hospital

That's a pretty good description of a TB sanitorium around the turn of the 20th century. On the downside, those were usually located in pretty cold climates because cold air was thought to be good for TB.

    The "chronic brucellosis" papers.

In 1985, about a year after the start of the Lake Tahoe outbreak on the the other side of the country, there was an outbreak of unknown fatiguing illness in Lyndonville, New York - a rural, farming community. If I recall correctly, the town doctor, David S. Bell, initially suspected brucellosis...

Most statin problems caused by mysterious 'nocebo effect', study suggests

Statins do have some rare but known side effects, like onset of type-2 diabetes and rhabdomyolysis. I started taking a statin last year and my doctor had me get a couple of blood tests early on to make sure that this kind of thing wasn't happening.

    NICE ME/CFS guideline - draft published for consultation - 10th November 2020

Well, in a decade old BMJ podcast Sir Simon did say that in 100 years' time their current approaches might be considered "puny and pathetic." My, how time flies.

Daily persistent headache after viral illness during a worldwide pandemic ...: Lessons from 1890 Russian/Asiatic flu, 2020, Rosen

No offense intended. People have had surprisingly strong reactions just from seeing me lock my thumb, so I thought I'd provide a sort of forewarning.:)

Daily persistent headache after viral illness during a worldwide pandemic ...: Lessons from 1890 Russian/Asiatic flu, 2020, Rosen

It's not clear to me whether by "neurologic sequelae that presented months to years after the pandemic ended" they mean "continued to present" or "first presented" - months to years after the pandemic ended. I developed really severe daily persistent headaches beginning only several months...
