Protocol: Persistent physical symptoms reduction intervention: a system change and evaluation (PRINCE), 2015 onwards, Chalder, Moss-Morris, et al

"It is believed that ..." Why the passive verb - who is doing the believing? And why? Evidence? Causal mechanism? And why do these believers get to put people in wheelchairs and then believe it's nothing to do with them? And get away with calling it science? Can't they just go away and start a...

New poor Guardian article "ME and the perils of internet activism" 28th July 2019

Research into the chronic illness, which affects 250,000 people in the UK, has been stalled for 30 years because of lazy journalism, an orchestrated media campaign, and abuse

Trial By Error: Some Thoughts on MUS and Bermingham; My Letter to Professor Payne

When I was 45 I fell off my bike, and after an MRT scan was told that I had a "bone bruise", which explained the pain in my arm. As an aside, the dr said that bone bruises are only visible with MRT scans, so before MRT came along, anyone complaining of pain in their arm after an accident which...

Crashed. Could hayfever have done this?

Nope, never tried that. I had a nose spray and inhaler about 20 years ago when my allergies started, but I don't think steroids were involved, and I'd stopped using them long before my M.E. Started.

Crashed. Could hayfever have done this?

I have allergies to five types of tree, so often get hayfever (or tree-fever) in the spring. I used to take over-the-counter remedies for it (cetirizin, and another one) which helped. However, since ME I can't take cetirizin or anything else because it completely knocks me out. So I just get...

MEA Website Survey: Physiotherapy and ME | 02 July 2019

Does the last option imply that all the options above are about receiving physiotherapy "for M.E."? ie not asking about the side-effects on M.E. when receiving physiotherapy for something else? The title of the contact email and the following passage seem to confirm this: I am also baffled by...

Unhealthy attachments: myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome and the commitment to endure - chapter in book on queer commitment

Well I understand what she's talking about and where she's coming from if that's what you mean. Intersectionality is a device for exponentially increasing your grievances. Unfortunately it also makes your identity group smaller, so when taken to extremes (which it will be) it leads to ever...

Cochrane Review: 'Exercise therapy for chronic fatigue syndrome' 2017, Larun et al. - Recent developments, 2018-19

Cochrane Review: 'Exercise therapy for chronic fatigue syndrome' 2017, Larun et al. - Recent developments, 2018-19

Certainly don't mean this to be a political post, I just remember how shocked I was when I saw this three years ago: Because it was the first time I had seen a politician brazenly admitting that feelings were more important than facts and treating the interviewer with mocking contempt for not...

'The real me shining through M.E.': Visualizing masculinity and identity threat in men with ME/CFS, Lucina Wilde et al., 2019

Researcher Interactions Video: Q&A with members of the CureME / UK ME/CFS Biobank team June 2019 Pts 1 & 2

There was a time when grating a bit of cheese for a baked potato or opening a bottle with a stiff top was something I wouldn't risk because it could leave me on the sofa for a couple of hours, and I only have mild ME, so I think they were quite right not to risk it.

USA: NIH National Institutes of Health news - latest ME/CFS webinar 14 Jan 2025

It would be nice if he'd focus on a level playing field where all illnesses are evaluated fairly for research opportunities. I'm sure breaking up the bias that is preventing women and other groups from being rightfully represented in scientific leadership is an important issue, but I don't see...
