Efficacy Of SARS–CoV-2 Specific Antiviral Therapy for Enteroviral Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/ChronicFatigue Syndrome
John K Chia, David Wang
Background
Etiology remains elusive for Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS), and no treatment exists. Antivirals had no efficacy...
Acute enterovirus infection followed by myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS) and viral persistence
John Chia, Andrew Chia, Michael Voeller, Tonny Lee, Robert Chang
Aims
Enteroviruses are well-known causes of acute respiratory and/or gastrointestinal infections and...
Abstract
Previous studies showed a low-grade enterovirus infection in the pancreatic islets of patients with newly diagnosed type 1 diabetes (T1D). In the Diabetes Virus Detection (DiViD) Intervention, a phase 2, placebo-controlled, randomized, parallel group, double-blind trial, 96 children and...

Autopsy material from a child who died from an acute flaccid myelitis–like illness showed EV-D68 RNA and protein in anterior horn cells and their axons, strongly implicating the...
Hello Guys,
I wrote a blogpost on enteroviruses in myalgic encephalomyelitis focusing on John Chia's research and with a section on historical research (which was mostly conducted in the UK in the 80s and 90s).
In the post I tried to provide a substantial look at this topic since it is, in...
Abstract
Interferon-lambda (IFN-λ) is a recently described cytokine found to be of critical importance in innate immune regulation of intestinal viruses. Endogenous IFN-λ has potent antiviral effects and has been shown to control multiple intestinal viruses and may represent a factor that...
Abstract
Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS) is a complex, multi-system disease whose etiological basis has not been established. Enteroviruses (EVs) as a cause of ME/CFS have sometimes been proposed, as they are known agents of acute respiratory and gastrointestinal...
Some people insist ME can only follow from an enterovirus; there are other post viral/infectious sequelae but they are distinctly different and not ME.
I don’t recall reading about any studies that showed this but I don’t know or recall every bit of evidence of course.
Interesting case report of an ME/CFS patient with carcinoid tumors.

Acute Flaccid Myelitis has been compared to polio, and is thought to be linked to Enterovirus D68. The long-term prognosis has not been studied.
I thought I'd be the first to take advantage of this new MEpedia sub-fourm, by posting a link to a new MEpedia article I just completed today, which is found here:
Non-cytolytic enterovirus — MEpedia article
This MEpedia article is a (hopefully) accessible introduction to non-cytolytic...
@JenB is tweeting about a review she's doing of the 'atypical poliomyelitis' approach to ME/CFS she's doing for MEpedia and asked:

IIRC it was to do with people's concerns about the validity of the testing but I'm not sure and don't know...
Opened up my email this morning to find this article, seems to show some similarities to the more severe forms of ME. Shame health authorities don't treat ME as seriously as this.
I obtained permission to copy ProMED posts to other Lists and websites many years ago. Just so you know that...
