In my nearly six years as a member of the SMCI family, I have come to appreciate the depth of caring and understanding in our community. We are deeply bonded by our shared experiences with this terrible disease, which is why I want to speak to you directly about how my own battle with ME/CFS is impacting my work here at SMCI.

Please watch the video below in which I address my upcoming transition from the role of SMCI President and CEO to that of SMCI Board Member.

How awful.

Embarrassed to admit that I never realized she had ME/CFS for some reason. Makes all the work she has done for Solve even more impressive.

I truly wish her all the best, and am incredibly thankful for all the work she has done. Solve has been one of my fav ME/CFS charities the past few years and I hope they will be able to find a great replacement :)!

From an email from Solve
Now that my tenure as Solve M.E. President and CEO has ended, I’m pleased to introduce you to new Interim CEO, Maryellen Gleason.

Maryellen Gleason has been with Solve M.E. for several months in our senior development role and is now stepping in as Interim CEO. She has served in the CEO role for several non-profits, and specializes in leading organizations during transition where significant growth is desired. She understands our work and has internalized our passion for solving this disease.

Get to know her in the video below:

I feel confident that I’m leaving Solve M.E. in capable and vigorous hands with Maryellen at the helm. I’ll sustain my commitment to ME/CFS with my work as a Solve M.E. board member. Our national executive search firm continues its work to identify our new permanent CEO.

Our Chief Scientific Officer, Dr. Sadie Whittaker, our Director of Advocacy and Community Relations, Emily Taylor, and the entire Solve M.E. staff bring their experience to this transition as their forward work continues unabated.

Onward, with real hope!

It goes to show how invisible this condition can be if we can’t spot one of our own ....also I find the step comparison revealing she has a similar envelope to me ..yet I’m still trying to work full time ...perhaps I’m kidding myself. I guess I’m lucky to have a less demanding job I suppose.

I have full admiration for her work and think this shift has been handled very openly and sensitively.
