I had the first part of my ADHD assessment yesterday and was told it's extremely likely that I will be diagnosed with ADHD. (Symptoms going back to childhood, long before I got ill.)
I was wondering what the experiences of ME patients who have ADHD, have been with ADHD medications? Since obviously our bodies have a lot more stuff going on than those of non-ill people with ADHD.
And increased stimulation seems concerning to me. Or even the increased noradrenaline that you get with the non-stimulant medication atomoxetine (strattera).
(Obviously I don't have to take the meds if I don't want to. But I would really like to find something that helps.)
Guanfacine and Clonidine are also options, though the doctor said he wouldn't want to try me on clonidine as it can lower blood pressure.
I did mention that I don't want to take stimulants as caffeine affects me badly, and he said that amphetamines (the ADHD stimulants) work differently to caffeine and wouldn't cause problems, but I'm not convinced...
I'm not asking for advice on what medication to take. I'm simply trying to get an idea of what I might want to try first out of the options that the doctor has said he will offer me.
