WE NEED 800 000 €
for a medical study at the University Hospital Erlangen with the drug BC007 of the company "Berlin Cures" for ME/CFS patients

"What is BC007? - Why this drug?

The University Hospital Erlangen made a significant discovery in July 2021: A Long-Covid patient became symptom-free after treatment with the heart drug BC007 from Berlin Cures. Now other patients have been treated with it, with the same success.

BC007 has already been successful at Green Star. A team of doctors from various disciplines led by Dr. Hohberger had already found out in a study that a Covid 19 infection can also affect the blood circulation in the eyes. In the blood of the affected patients, they found certain proteins that also occur in glaucoma disease (glaucoma): These are so-called autoantibodies against G-protein-coupled receptors.

„This means that the immune defense, which is good per se, is directed against the own body and forms substances that can be harmful. This sometimes has serious consequences,“ explains Dr. Dr. Bettina Hohberger, specialist at the Erlangen Eye Clinic. „We already know one of these autoantibodies from glaucoma and know that it has a negative effect on blood circulation in the eyes,” explains the doctor.

Disturbances in the microblood circulation and increased autoantibodies can be detected both in long-covid patients and in ME/CFS patients by measuring them in the blood. These autoantibodies are rendered harmless by the drug BC007. This has now happened to the first Long Covid patients. And that’s what Dr. Hohberger and her team also test it in ME/CFS patients.

Therefore we need the amount of € 800,000!
Please help us to make this study possible!

I like efforts to raise money privately and like to be enthusiastic about them. It is not a popular opinion but I think a significant reason why we don’t have had as much research funded by governments compared to many other illnesses is we have raised less privately so (pre-Covid) there were fewer researchers to make grant applications, especially those with pilot data. Also governments only fund a percentage of applications for other conditions so to make some big projects happen you need significant sums raised privately.

So I would really like to support this by highlighting it a quite a bit.

However I think the amount of money being sought is unlikely to be raised so I’m holding back until I learn what will happen if the total isn’t reached. Perhaps that info is already out there?

Not sure why we should spread the word without having a look to see if it is well grounded?

From what I have seen so far the stuff about BC007 looks like poor science. The evidence for G-protein coupled receptor autoantibodies being of relevance in ME or post-Covid problems is as far as I can see pretty much negative.

Why haven't the shareholders of the company that makes the drug seen fit to provide funds?

The fundraising campaign have raised 132 000 Euros so far, or 16,5% of what's the
minimum goal of 800 000 euros.
You can view the progress via the donation barometer at the bottom of this page: https://wir-fordern-forschung.org/en/

If anyone want to share this on Twitter you can use the hashtag #fundraisingbc007MEcfs.
The fundraiser also have their own Twitter-account: https://twitter.com/MECfsFundraiser

As I understand it the company behind the drug, Berlin Cures, is a small startup company with limited funds, and this project is in collaboration with a German university.

Dr. Bettina Hohberger on Twitter:

"We have demonstrated the efficacy of BC007 to LongCovid in Erlangen. Now BerlinCures is no longer contacting us. We have been waiting for answers for weeks. In order to continue our work, we need the drug. Not a good business practice"

Hm, @ Dr. Hohberger: Also not a good research practice to claim to have demonstrated the efficacy of a drug on which the first clinical trial is still ongoing.

"TLDR: BC007 is being delayed a bit, likely until November or at worst early 2023. BC have done some good proof of concept studies for BC007, but not enough to get investors now. They are worried Erlangen will fuck the study up by including ME/CFS patients so they demanded they are excluded. This is the right thing to do, they dont have long covid and their stats could fuck stuff up. They are also a group of sick people who deserve their OWN trial. Hopefully this will result in a highly efficacious trial. It sucks we have to wait. It sucks me/cfs patients have to wait longer."

I have author of the post tagged as "liar, unpleasant" and he has also been blocked which means he likes to personally attack people. I wouldn't consider this much of a source at all. It may very well be true but the person presenting it is not credible.
