adults and children with post-COVID and our loved ones

note that:
  • GPs and specialists cannot adequately help us with complex multi-system complaints because they are not aware of the available knowledge and appropriate treatment processes are therefore not provided;
  • we have been severely limited for a long time at school, in our work, in our role as partner, child, parent, friend;
  • people are still contracting post-COVID every day;
  • patients improve through treatment in post COVID clinics abroad.

and requests
  • to support Julian Bushoff's amendment;
  • to implement the widely supported call to invest in specialized outpatient clinics;
  • to give medical specialists the opportunity to gain insight into how patients with post-COVID and other post-infectious diseases (such as Lyme, Q fever and ME) can be helped. Let them pioneer so that their expertise can flow throughout healthcare.

Apart from showing strength in numbers does the petition have another value, as in a certain threshold of signatures crossed amounts to something? I was also wandering about the significance of the website petities.nl, is just a dutch version of something like change.org or or does it have more significance than that?

The petition is by far the most signed petition on that website with 12.400 signatures right now.

Afraid I can't answer those questions - I just saw a number of patient advocates whose opinions/judgement I trust sharing this on social media so thought I would boost awareness of it a little by posting here.
 
After seemingly slowing down a bit, the pace of signatures seems to have picked up again and 71 000 people have now signed the petition. Quite a tremendous amount for a country with the population size of Netherlands. For what it's worth, it's now under the all-time top 20 petitions on petities.nl.

I think it's mostly to show how many people feel there is the need for specialized outpatient clinics. Hoping the politicians will vote in favor of them. I surely hope they will. (and that the BPS crowd stays the hell away).

I see no restrictions, so I guess "yes"

Fill in Name, mail address and place of residence (city).
If you don't tick the box you sign the petition anonymous.
After that you receive a mail where you can click on the confirm link, that's it.

I see that the petition is offered to the House of Representatives tomorrow at 1:15 pm so not much time left to sign.

Today, February 15, 2024, Parliament voted on a number of motions and amendments affecting a number of ministries. Including that of VWS.
Also about the amendments important for LC- and ME patients by Julian Bushoff and Nico Drost

Nico Drost (€ 4,4 million to compensate for the subsidy granted by ZonMw unfairly to ME/CFS Lines from the budget of the ME/CVS Research Program): Accepted!

Bushoff (€ 27 million over 2024 and 2025 for the establishment of LC/PAIS policies): Accepted!

Assumption of that was in fact already confirmed, considering the co-signatories (see image)

We wish all Long and Post-Covid organisations and patients well on this outcome, and thank everyone for their efforts – from running a petition to liking a post about it on all social media. Hopefully this proposal will be implemented very quickly, and in such a way that ME patients will also benefit from it.
The adoption of Nico Drost's amendment proves the strength of the ME community and the right they have been fighting for decades.

And perhaps the most important: there is a proven very strong increasing awareness in the breadth of society of the seriousness of both LC and ME. That is no less than a paradigm shift that has taken place.
A beautiful end to a nerve wracking and historic week.
And hopefully the beginning of a brighter future for both all ME and Long Covid patients in the Netherlands, and perhaps also in Belgium.
Last but not least: deep gratitude for those who fought for this but are no longer here - and nevertheless made a big contribution to this.
