Top rate ESA (SG) is currently a smidge over £7000 (£7038 or something close to that), not £6,115.

Ah yes, thanks for correcting that.
With Contribution based ESA you only get 117.60 per wk x 52 wks a yr = 6115.20

But with Income Related ESA there is an 'enhanced disability premium' isnt there, i had forgotten about that. As you say its still less than minimum wage. and working people also qualify for Housing benefit if their income is low enough, so...

It's also telling & a further illustration of the double bind for patients.... If we are 'indifferent' and not overly concerned by symptoms then its functional or likely feigned, but if we are anxious about our symptoms then its hypochondria.

Heads they win, tails we lose.

Bottom line: There is no possibility of psychiatrists and neurologists being wrong about this.

Just ask them.

Not only are they never wrong, they've got a diagnosis for EVERYTHING. You name something, they can put a label on it and better yet they can treat you. It's the infinity-racket where you can always find a new group of people to pay for your services.

Disturbing article full of lies and self-aggrandisement. Basically, the whole thing boils down to how to trick/screw over the patient. Check out also this self-indulgent bit where they talk about how taking the "functional" patient's history should be tweaked to make it more interesting for himself (the neurologist).

I'm not here for your entertainment.
So much for duty of candor.

Enforcement is 99% of any system of rules or laws. A "duty" that is completely unenforced is just a slogan. A system that pretends that what is effectively nothing but a slogan should still be named duty is serious about itself, just not serious about its mission.

Freaking Iron law of institutions. Always the Iron law of institutions. Even medicine fell to it.
The people who control institutions care first and foremost about their power within the institution rather than the power of the institution itself. Thus, they would rather the institution "fail" while they remain in power within the institution than for the institution to "succeed" if that requires them to lose power within the institution.

Always said that the first order of business for those who get into power is to arrange things so they are not held responsible for any adverse consequences of exercising that power.

It shouldn't be, but it is.
