Wild Novak Djokovic Conspiracy Theory Drops After US Open Loss​

In a shocking turn of events, Novak Djokovic suffered a first-round loss to Mariano Navone at the US Open on Sunday night.

The four-time winner battled stomach flu, headaches, dehydration and backaches in his 6-7, 7-5, 6-4, 2-5, 1-6 loss to the Argentine Navone.

On the air, the announcers acknowledged that Djokovic threw up at least thrice during the course of the match that lasted four hours and 36 minutes.

Some fans and analysts have floated a conspiracy theory that Djokovic, who infamously refused the COVID-19 vaccine, may be dealing with the after-effects of his decision.

The theory gained steam after Djokovic said before this year's US Open that he's been dealing with a multi-year health issue when playing in humid and hot conditions.

"The conditions aren't the problem. It's because of a health issue I have. I've been dealing with it for many years now. It causes me a lot of problems, especially when there's a lot of humidity and heat," Djokovic said before he began his pursuit of a 25th major title and fourth US Open title.

I watched most of the match but fell asleep before it ended. I saw him throw up and he looked weak, I thought his legs would give out.

There were comments circulating about Novak on X a week ago about health issues involving severe vomiting and physical collapse during matches that he "does not yet know how to fix".

The comments were all about his refusal to get the Covid vaccines.

Djokovic has had weird health issues all his life. Hampered his career a lot at first. He then claimed his gluten free diet fixed a lot of his issues.

Difficult to see how Djokovic who this year beat Sinner in 5 sets at AO as a 38 year old could be suffering from long covid. Even healthy young players can struggle in BO5. Djokovic definitely been off here in the US swing though.

At least it's positive to see how many people take long covid seriously and how it isn't viewed as some joke psychosomatic illness that only happens to privileged attention seeking people. In fact it's pretty often I read about Long Covid speculation when it comes to athletes. Kinda weird how atrocious everything surrounding the research has been given the illness seems to be taken somewhat serious by the public. Especially hardcore sports fans.

The speculation isn't coming from activists, it is a constant organic thing whenever athletes significantly fail to perform after a bout of illness

This isn't Covid infection related, but thought I would mention it since Novak became ill, Felix Auger-Aliassime seeded #3 in the US Open was bounced out of his match by Russia's Karen Khachanovdue due to illness, he was feeling dizzy, seeing spots, and had abdominal cramps. I remember back in 2018 during a match when Felix had to lie down on the court due to palpitations and trachycardia brought on by extreme heat and humidity.
