Guardian: "Lady Gaga cancels 10 concerts, suffering from 'severe pain'"

Lady Gaga has cancelled the last 10 dates of her world tour, including performances in London and Manchester, on the advice of her doctors after suffering from “severe pain”.

A day before she was due to appear at the O2 in London, the singer said on Twitter that she had made “the tough decision” to cancel the final 10 dates of her Joanne tour “with strong support from her medical team”.

“Lady Gaga is suffering from severe pain that has materially impacted her ability to perform live,” the statement said. She has fibromyalgia, a chronic condition that can cause widespread pain.

Kirsty Young to take time out from Desert Island Discs [due to fibromyalgia]

Young said: "Casting away some of the world's most fascinating people is a wonderful job - however, I'm having to take some time away from Desert Island Discs as I'm suffering from a form of fibromyalgia.

"I wish Lauren all the very best, I know she will be great. And I very much look forward to getting back to good health and back to work."

She's a national treasure - everyone loves her on DIDs. Hope she's ok. Glad she named fibromylagia and not just 'health issues' - all helps to increase awareness.

There was also a cyclist in the news yesterday who has been forced to stop and rest after contracting epstein barr virus.. I can't find the link now though. Anyone see it?

She might get referred to the nearest IAPT clinic, as Fibromyalgia is on the MUS list. Wonder if/when the BBC will dare to expose what is going on re: MUS(?)

I think it varies depending on what you are looking at, but chronic pain, including fibromyalgia has by turns been described as MUS or as a LTC in IAPT materials. For LTCs there should be a co-morbid depression or anxiety (not required for MUS), but I can't speak to the realities of what patients are actually being referred. I think chronic pain, to include fibromyalgia, is being categorised for national reporting purposes as an LTC. Happy to be corrected.

This article by Sarah Baxter is on the leader page of the Times today, not as a leading article but as an opinion piece sharing the page with Dominic Lawson. It will get a huge readership. I am so horrified by the waffle and innuendo I am incoherent. She even brings in Florence Nightingale whose illness was attributed - “”almost certainly wrongly- to syphilis.”

It is appalling journalism, just illinformed gossip. I think it needs a response preferably one based clearly in science. Can anyone do this? @Jonathan Edwards.

No, (yank here). Reminds me of the actor Morgan Freeman who was diagnosed with fibro but refuses to do any publicity for the cause. Afraid he won't get more work.

Kirsty Young expecting to "recover" from fibromyalgia?

On today's radio page in Radio Times, re Desert Island Discs:

'She (Lauren Laverne) is only standing in while Young recovers from the condition fibromyalgia, though we're told that this could take "a number of months".'

Maybe downplayed to try to save her job?
