Research Study Seeking Volunteers

We are investigating the interplay of cellular landscapes and the role of oxidative stress and how they contribute to the disease in chronic conditions and illness.

We are seeking healthy volunteers or patients that self-report with these diseases:

Adults ages 18-65:

ME/CFS

Recovered ME/CFS

Hypermobile EDS

Hypermobility Syndrome

Orthostatic intolerance

POTS (postural orthostatic tachycardia)

Long COVID

Fibromyalgia (FM)

Chronic Lyme

Gulf War Illness

Healthy Adults

Children ages 12-17:

ME/CFS

Recovered ME/CFS

Hypermobile EDS

Hypermobility Syndrome

Orthostatic Intolerance

POTS

Healthy Children

ME/CFS = Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/ Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

Time Commitment: Adult Initial visit 30 min in person, two follow-up visits 30 min each in person; Children initial visit, 1 follow-up visit, optional joining study to follow up to 4 years.

RECLAIM Initiative at the Sluss Lab: Researching Chronic Condition Linkages And Integrative Mechanisms

At the Sluss Lab at UMass Chan Medical School, the RECLAIM initiative is focused on exploring the underlying mechanisms of understudied chronic conditions. As part of RECLAIM, Dr. Sluss is investigating how oxidative stress influences chronic conditions such as Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS), ME/CFS, and other infection-associated chronic conditions and illnesses (IACCIs.)

Dr. Sluss, an expert in oxidative stress, also has lived experience with seeing the devastation and multi-morbid nature of these diseases, having a child with ME/CFS, hypermobile EDS, and orthostatic intolerance.

RECLAIM is recruiting participants — adults and children aged 12-17 — who self-report with ME/CFS, Long COVID, or other IACCIs. Adult study participants can expect three 30-minute in-person visits, and child participants will have two in-person visits with the option to join a follow-up study. Contact Dr. Sluss at Hayla.sluss@umassmed.edu.
