David Tuller crowdfund: Trial By Error: Reporting on ME/CFS and Related Controversies

I wonder if some people hold off until nearer the end of the campaign to see what the trajectory is looking like before deciding whether to donate or how much.

Mystery illnesses reveal the power of our minds to influence health, New Scientist

Probably this Amanda Payne who has written a lot of posts here, leads me to believe the New Scientist article is about Non-Epileptic Attack Disorder (NEAD) From here: A non-epileptic attack is a type of seizure. It can look similar to epileptic seizures or fainting spells, but it is not caused...

'We're absolutely appalled' say mesh campaigners over NICE decision - ITV news Apr 2019

There was a documentary on Netflix about these and some other medical devices, I thought it was very good, well worth watching. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Bleeding_Edge

Cognitive and behavioural responses to symptoms in adolescents with CFS: A case-control study nested within a cohort, 2019, Loades et al

That CBRQ questionnaire is so biased and terrible it's unbelievable (found a link (p.450-2) on this thread) These are some of the questions that they presumably think indicate 'Unhelpful cognitive and behavioural responses' rather than someone who legitimately might just experience PEM as a...

Special Report - Online activists are silencing us, scientists say Reuters March 2019

It looks like they quite carefully tap-danced around the issue to avoid directly disputing anything the article wrote about Michael Sharpe, David Tuller or the PACE trial.

'AAAS: Machine learning 'causing science crisis'', BBC article Feb. 2019

I don't know the stats but I suspect that machine learning was only used in a tiny portion (if any) of the studies that led to the awareness of a replication crisis especially as the term was coined in 2012 and many of the studies failing replication predate that by many more years. Researchers...

COMPare Trials, Ben Goldacre et al

For anyone who hasn't seen the quote: Ben Goldacre said, November 9, 2007 at 12:38 am i’m not sure there are very many clear answers, but i have to say i think medically unexplained symptoms and the mechanisms of psychological factors in ill health are officially the most interesting thing in...

Protocol: Persistent physical symptoms reduction intervention: a system change and evaluation (PRINCE), 2015 onwards, Chalder, Moss-Morris, et al

Where is that definition from, I certainly agree that is what it ought to mean ? NICE for example just give this definition

Protocol: Persistent physical symptoms reduction intervention: a system change and evaluation (PRINCE), 2015 onwards, Chalder, Moss-Morris, et al

Edzard Ernst wrote a good piece on A+B vs A, unfortunately I think that 'no treatment' is still considered a control so technically it is an RCT (A+treatment vs A+nothing). It's a constant frustration to me that all RCTs are often considered similarly strong evidence when un-blinded no-treatment...

Protocol: Persistent physical symptoms reduction intervention: a system change and evaluation (PRINCE), 2015 onwards, Chalder, Moss-Morris, et al

CBT would without any doubt do all of those things provided all measurements were made by questionnaire.

Trial By Error: Bristol Investigating Crawley Papers

Great to hear but I wish it was a more independent investigation, it's like letting Volkswagen investigate whether they cheated emissions.

Open letter to the Trustees and Staff of Action for ME about the 'Toolkit for professionals'

That is what most of us here have discovered but do we have the evidence to extrapolate that to being a the case for anyone with an ME/CFS diagnosis ? I often wonder to what extent the population of people we mean when we talk about ME/CFS is the the same population that other people or...

Finally, I’ve found what caused my brain fog, chronic fatigue, depression and aching joints...an insect bite! - James Delingpole

He's been put on a vegan diet too I’m on a no-alcohol, no-caffeine, no-sugar, vegan diet. It’s less fun than it sounds. Occasionally I cheat, but mostly I don’t, because I don’t want to upset the lovely doctors at the Infusio clinic in Frankfurt who gave me my stem cells for the Lyme disease...

Finally, I’ve found what caused my brain fog, chronic fatigue, depression and aching joints...an insect bite! - James Delingpole

Here it is :rofl: Possibly it was chronic fatigue syndrome (ME), but my GP couldn’t say. There was nothing he could do for me, unless I fancied anti-depressants. I’m not going to bore you with details of everything I tried that didn’t work (including antibiotics, homeopathy, and diets)...
