United Kingdom: 2007 NICE CFS/ME GUIDELINE

If it exists, I imagine it would show a correlation between severity and bed resting. Of course, it is a well established fact that (certain) researchers are free to choose a direction of causality in whichever way is most convenient without need of further evidence.

United Kingdom: ME Research Collaborative (MERC) [was CMRC] news

The question is, are 'Functional Syndromes' (or whatever name is used) well enough defined for any study using them to meet the definition of "scrupulously well designed". If all it takes is "We can find no medical explanation for this symptom" then I say not.

David Tuller - Trial By Error: News About My Plans

Thanks for your efforts over the years @dave30th. Earlier in 2015 I was coming up for my biannual review of my disability pension provided through my income protection insurance. I knew the specialist I needed a report from was keen on me trying CBT and GET due to the PACE trial and I felt...

DNA testing on Long Term Health Insurance and Life Insurance

The solution is simple. Governments (i.e., we, the people) must legislate to ensure risk is spread. Unbridled capitalism is a horrible place. Just ask child coal miners from the 19th century.

S4ME: Submission to the public review on common data elements for ME/CFS: Problems with the Chalder Fatigue Questionnaire

Yes, that "How is your memory" question makes the whole thing seem ludicrous! How are you supposed to answer it? What does "My memory is more than usual" mean? To fit with the other questions, answering more than usual should imply more impairment but it sounds more like saying your memory is...

Investigating the effectiveness ... of FITNET-NHS compared to Activity Management to treat paediatric CFS/ME, 2018, Crawley et al. Protocol

Didn't Carolyn Wilshire show that GET biased improved the physical function questionnaire more while CBT was better for the fatigue scale?

    1st ME/CFS Canadian Collaborative Conference

I agree. Day 3 sounds like just the place for this to happen.

You make me tired: An experimental test of the role of interpersonal operant conditioning in fatigue 2018 Bert Lenaert et al

I have only read the abstract but haven't they just demonstrated that subjective questionnaire responses can be influenced by researcher bias?

Nature: A reboot for chronic fatigue syndrome research

Although it is obvious to us that the Cochrane reviews quoted are meaningless because the studies they review are meaningless, as long as they stand they form a potent debating point for audiences that won't look beyond the Cochrane name. They need to be exposed for the shite that they are. (I...

S4ME: Submission to the public review on Common Data Elements for ME/CFS: Concerns with the proposed measure of post-exertional malaise

Says it better than I can. Very well done and thanks heaps to all involved for all the work that went into it.

Why we victim blame -- and why Larry Nassar shows we shouldn't

Yes I was confused by the choices available.

Henrick Vogt: "intense negativity spread by individuals/CFS groups/researchers" partly to blame for family's suicide

The fact that he thought it ok to make that tweet and MS to like it does indicate how strongly wedded they are to the idea that it's all in our heads.

IiME letter to Mark Baker (NICE) re: CBT & GET as recommended treatments

Surely this comes down to the definition of the group that the NICE guidelines are being written for. If the target group is defined by ICC (say) and the prevalence of ICC was shown to be 0.4% (I am only guestimating these numbers for the sake of the argument) while the prevalence of Oxford was...

Are objective outcomes of cognitive function possible?

The difficulty is that what is effortful varies a lot between individuals. I suspect it's the things that used to take more effort when I was well that are most likely to crash my brain now. For example, writing was always an effortful task for me (although I was usually quite pleased with the...

Are objective outcomes of cognitive function possible?

For me, cognitive deficits are much more of an impediment than physical. I don't post much simply because the effort of deciding what word to use next is too much. As I struggle through I feel as if my brain is demanding energy but it isn't available. If I keep pushing my legs start getting...

Is the NIH/CDC going to use the right PEM definition for all their future research? Do patients need to act? Deadline 31 Jan

This thread should be required reading for any researcher contemplating investigating ME. Anyone up to suggesting it to them?

Tuller / Trial By Error: The Crawley Chronicles, Resumed

This excuse only makes sense if schools only keep records for the percentage of expected hours attended and not the actual hours attended. Does anyone know if schools do not keep that data?
