Michael Sharpe skewered by @JohntheJack on Twitter

Exactly. It's not a "model", that is a misnomer. It was ultimately about Engel's effort to re-legitimise psychiatry.

HPV vaccination and risk of ME/CFS

A vaccine for multiple viruses in the same needle is likely to be safer than vaccines for those same viruses administered at separate times. Each one is a new independent event to stimulate the immune system (especially so if adjuvants are involved). My opinion after reviewing the data on...

HPV vaccination and risk of ME/CFS

I had neither a fever or typical viral-like illness - just rapid onset severe fatigue and severe weakness in my lower limbs.

Which is the justification for the compensation scheme that they use in the US, but such a scheme is often absent in many countries including Australia (thus making mandatory vaccination or coercion unethical in Australia).

Michael Sharpe skewered by @JohntheJack on Twitter

Of course no one ever lies in their Twitter bio. By the way, my Twitter bio says I'm an animagus. I prefer the term "Predatory Journal" because that's what they really are...

HPV vaccination and risk of ME/CFS

I had the same experience with sudden onset GBS with symptoms starting right after a vaccination (and I did not experience, nor test positive to any sort of infection at that time!) - no one wants to take responsibility due to all the politics involved. The thing is that acute flacid paralysis...

HPV vaccination and risk of ME/CFS

Is this really true though? Vaccination rates have been increasing steadily for decades at a more or less constant rate in most countries. The media claims of outbreaks are overblown - infection rates go up and down due to stochastic factors and these differences over given periods don't have...

HPV vaccination and risk of ME/CFS

These studies seem inconsistent. An increase in CFS/ME but not GBS in Finland https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2405852116300696 An increase in GBS in France: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0264410X17308071 These studies don't say there is no link, they...

Re-framing GET as pacing, or vice-versa

That is exactly what I am saying. Improving fitness requires an increase in intensity - which is not required by the regime and thus many patients will avoid it. Yes, the GET but not really GET study was conducted in Perth by Karen Wallman (and treated the same as the other GET trials in the...

Brain function characteristics of chronic fatigue syndrome: A task fMRI study, Shan et al, 2018

I've done the stroop test too as part of an undegraduate student project and I was quite nervous too. The fact is we have to work harder to concentrate and that may well also stimulate more areas of the brain (some of that extra stimulation may aid performance - should not be ruled out)

Rethinking the treatment of CFS — a reanalysis and evaluation of findings from a recent major trial of GET and CBT (2018) Wilshire et al.

The hardware/software analogy is simply body/mind duality with a different name. This needs to be called out whenever invoked.

Ideas For Marketing ME More Effectively...

Marketing to what end? What is the goal? It is also important not to mix up marketing with education - and it is difficult to educate the public through slogans and media articles...

Reduction of glucocorticoid receptor function in chronic fatigue syndrome

The overall finding is the opposite to the predictions made in several other studies, but mostly the study shows that some patients have higher levels of cortisol (rather than low cortisol) and lower levels of GCr function as a result. Overall the conclusion is spot on: I had previously come...

Patients with chronic fatigue syndrome do not score higher on the autism‐spectrum quotient than healthy controls, 2018, Bileviciute‐Ljungar et al

There is basically no evidence for that hypothesis. There is no evidence for a genuine ME-ASD connection in the published literature.

    Norway: ME Forening (ME Association)

This is certainly good news. I am glad some attention is being given to adolescents with this illness too (I was 15 when I first became ill). But just one question, how exactly do you do a placebo controlled study of cyclophosphamide? Does the placebo also cause nausea etc? Otherwise it's...

Re-framing GET as pacing, or vice-versa

Not necessarily - increasing fitness appreciably requires somewhat intense activity and rest afterwards (you would certainly not be doing the same level of activity on consecutive days if the goal is to increase fitness).
