Claim (PACE) ME/CFS cured by changing mind on way out HealthInsightUK Blog post by Jerome Burne (2019)

Excellent that she has read the Jerome Burne piece, & I agree with you @Esther12 & @Barry, that awareness is the key thing. However none of the responders to her tweet seem to have read the article, and are mainly in the 'I've got CF & I'm so tired at the end of a day's work it's awful'/ 'I had...

ME/CFS services in the United Kingdom

"Thank you so much" - says the 6year old who has never done any exercise in his life prior to becoming ill.... oh, i'm sorry is that not who this advice was intended for? Patronising *******!! Honestly do they think none of us were ever athletes before? that none of us had ever done any...

Prediction of long-term outcome after cognitive behavioral therapy for chronic fatigue syndrome, 2019, Knoop et al

I imagine they mean resting - ie treating one's fatigue as if it were as real as it feels, rather than merely a perception problem. On the IBS study discussed here recently they talk about behaviour as 'rushing to the toilet when one gets the urge' (rather than simply ignoring it & then crapping...

Prediction of long-term outcome after cognitive behavioral therapy for chronic fatigue syndrome, 2019, Knoop et al

Couldnt agree more. I only read the abstract not wasting my energy on the rest. I just find it utterly astonishing that dozens & dozens of studies into the breathtakingly obvious keep getting passed off as scientific research. People whose symptoms were more severe at baseline were more severe...

    Reading words incorrectly

me too, i find it's getting worse & i often say the wrong version of their/there. It drives me crazy because i am real stickler for such things & pre illness i just would never, never say you're if i meant your, i mean it just wouldnt happen no matter how tired (or drunk! lol) But know i read...

    medical professionals, psychologists, and researchers

I think we're getting off topic but I too wanted to say that i am easily as nervous of the attitudes of nurses/paramedics as i am of doctors. I've had several nurses laugh in my face. I saw a consultant (for an unrelated issue) last week & when the nurse took me in pre-consult to check my blood...

Mystery illnesses reveal the power of our minds to influence health, New Scientist

so what happened to poor little ralph? mine too. But in a different way. I was surprised to read the article because i have a functional symptom - distraction makes it worse not better. however so does attempting to control it. I find 'letting it be' just 'allowing' it, rather than trying to...

Persistent Physical Symptoms as Perceptual Dysregulation: A Neuropsychobehavioral Model and Its Clinical Implications, 2018, Henningsen et al

How very intriguing... I know nothing about signalling, but it sounds like it would fit with my experience. I hope you'll explore that idea further.

Gary Burgess - The ME show, and updates about Gary's health.

@Gary BurgessThanks for all your hard work on these shows. I'm a bit behind, just caught up with the Carol Monaghan episode, which is great, I'm so glad we have her working for us. I wondered if, in the show notes alongside the links to the Sharpe/Liddle horror, you thought it might be...

MUS services in UK and other MUS related issues

yikes. they like to point out that Childhood illness has 'clear advantages'.... really? ever been ill as a child? Although i guess for some kids it might garner increased parental attention... it never did for me. I never had anything chronic but a couple of relatively serious incidents were...

MUS services in UK and other MUS related issues

Woah! :emoji_astonished: So they have pervasive refusal on a spectrum with CFS/Fibro? Now we see where Crawley's replacement diagnoses of PRS when kids dont improve with CBT & instead deteriorate, comes from. ETA: I should make it clear that i don't have any personal evidence that this...

Why the sexes don’t feel pain the same way

surely not?! surely it's that male mice are more prone to "conversion" and allowing their emotional distress to manifest bodily, and also obviously because they are much more prone to pain catastrophising, & therefore become centrally sensitised, leading to body watching & misinterpreting normal...

Cognitive and behavioural responses to symptoms in adolescents with CFS: A case-control study nested within a cohort, 2019, Loades et al

Precisely. The experience of having done more than one is used to, regardless of how much more, is vastly different than the experience of feeling ill. As with the feeling of being very tired - not the same as feeling ill. It can be repeated until we're blue in the face. In their world...

Brian Hughes - If you spend 20 years gaslighting your patients, perhaps you should think twice before accusing *them* of trolling *you*
