Chaired by Jeremy Clarke, presumably the one who is at the LSE Centre for Philosophy of Natural and Social Science and who says:
"My research at LSE is part of a progressive inter-disciplinary project led by Nancy Cartwright looking at how evidence can be used to make better predictions for...
This shows the dangers for people in using social media, especially in such sad circumstances. How does one convey, within the word limitations imposed by tweets, precisely how one is using the word "could" in the phrase "the children could get well." I don't suppose that modal verbs are any...
If Sharpe liked it, he may believe it to be some obscure, unrecognised, literary allusion. It is strange that the medical provision is exempt from blame.
How ironic. This should have been the direction of travel since 1989 when there was a paper saying aetiology is not important, and allowing for the broadening of criteria until research was meaningless. Done by anybody else.....
Given discussion on a recent thread, suggestions as to what they...
Given the terms of that 1989 paper by David, Wessely, Butler and Chalder which we have discussed elsewhere and which showed that there was an awareness of the possibility of harm arising from exercise, it might have been worth looking into the matter.
In the other place I did start a thread...
I have for some time been of the view that this lies behind all the public funding for the Paralympics. Propaganda to mould the public perspective against the ill. See what you can do if you only make the effort.
My recollection of the late 1980's is that it was thought that there was a roughly equal split of males to females in the sudden onset category, and higher ratio of females to males in the slow onset. I don't know whether this was valid research or whether it has been corroborated.
You know me. My mind wanders. All this talk of Oxford criteria made me inquisitive about the two others, along with Peter White, thanked for financial support for the conference establishing the criteria.
They were:
1. Duphar Pharmaceuticals. They appear to have changed their name to Solvay...
One would imagine from that website address measussex.org.uk that the organisation was affiliated to the MEA. Is there any such affiliation?
It is noteworthy that the email address refers to sussexmes.
The question I would like answered by those who hold such beliefs is:
In what use of the word "same" do the third who recover have the "same" illness as the third who do not?
It is hard to avoid the conclusion that, potentially, the most important tool for those advocating a biopsychosocial approach to anything would be a mirror.
No wonder we're socially isolated.
People may have the wrong impression.
After reading this, who would accept an invitation to come round for a coffee?
When reading the above comments it is always worth recalling the 1989 article by Wessely, David, Butler and Chalder in which it was acknowledged that there was a possibility that some patients might be harmed by exercise, but that they could not be distinguished from those who were thought...
One has to accept the possibility that Crawley has been harassed. There is no way of knowing. It is pointless trying to discuss the matter in such terms.
The question that matters is, has she made the case that she has been harassed in such a way as would persuade a reasonable audience? Let us...
It might be time to look up the direct quotes from that almost contemporaneous lecture at which various comments, generally regarded as disobliging, were made.
For the sake of history, one would be glad to have clarification of the intended meanings.
Even the word "exertion" troubles me.
We seem to have "activity", "exertion" and "over-exertion" being used interchangeably.
The word "exertion" may suggest merely activity or exercise, but would generally imply some level of activity above a normal base rate. The problem with PEM is often...
