IAPT requests addition of DSM-5's Somatic symptom disorder (SSD) to SNOMED CT for use in Data Set v2.0 to replace "MUS - not otherwise specified"

He's wriggling out of giving an opinion on the potential embedding, via the back door, of DSM-5 disorder terms into the NHS:

IAPT requests addition of DSM-5's Somatic symptom disorder (SSD) to SNOMED CT for use in Data Set v2.0 to replace "MUS - not otherwise specified"

I have today alerted a mailing list of UK and international clinical psychologists, academics, social workers and mental health advocates that I am member of, some of whom had been involved back in 2010-2013 in organising petitions, position statements, discussion platforms and commentaries...

IAPT requests addition of DSM-5's Somatic symptom disorder (SSD) to SNOMED CT for use in Data Set v2.0 to replace "MUS - not otherwise specified"

In the run up to finalisation of the APA's new DSM-5 criteria sets and disorder description texts, I recall Prof Wessely commenting, somewhat disparagingly, on the new Somatic symptom disorder construct which has replaced most of DSM-IV's Somatoform disorders. He had also stated that DSM-5 was...

IAPT requests addition of DSM-5's Somatic symptom disorder (SSD) to SNOMED CT for use in Data Set v2.0 to replace "MUS - not otherwise specified"

The Request for addition of SSD to SNOMED CT mentions "the IAPT National Clinical Advisor". Professor David Clark, Professor and Chair of Experimental Psychology, University of Oxford, is National Clinical & Informatics Advisor for IAPT. You would think he would be aware that DSM-5 is little...

IAPT requests addition of DSM-5's Somatic symptom disorder (SSD) to SNOMED CT for use in Data Set v2.0 to replace "MUS - not otherwise specified"

I note they have cited the old ICD-9-CM mapping code. The U.S. has been using ICD-10-CM since October 2015. DSM-5's SSD is mapped to F45.1 Undifferentiated somatoform disorder in ICD-10-CM.

Waking up in the night and hearing a brain-generated sound

[Not an ME patient, myself] I've had exploding head syndrome for years. Not frequently, and most often on days that have been stressy or when I'm particularly tired. For me, it sounds like a loud gun shot inside my head, often followed by that sensation of falling through the bed or falling off...

UK All Party Parliamentary Group being reactivated - 2020

This uncommissioned and unofficial "inquiry" and the Report that resulted out of it had no status at all in either the H of Commons or the H of Lords, or with any government agency. It was sent to various government agencies, none of whom issued any response. I know of no-one around at the time...

UK All Party Parliamentary Group being reactivated - 2020

Having been around at the time, that was a very poorly conducted and unofficial "inquiry" - cobbled together by Ian Gibson via an ad hoc group chaired by himself after he had failed to obtain the "full" and "high level" and "official inquiry" he had promised in the media and to local group reps...
