    Cortisol & eating

Just a biology question. I think I remember reading somewhere on the internet (though it is possible that I misunderstood what I read) - and I've been searching and can't find it again - that eating food causes cortisol secretion. I think this was in the context of the circadian rhythm and...

Suggest a name for Chris Ponting's ME GWAS project!

Study of Heritable Illness Traits (SHIT) Genome Report On Associations Newly found (GROAN) Heritable pathoLogy Project (HeLP) Disclaimer: these suggestions are meant as a joke. Since the BPS researchers seem to be fond of acronyms like PACE, SMILE etc.... I wanted to see if I could have some...

    Weighted blankets

Thanks. How heavy is the Jacquard? And how heavy is the John Lewis silk one? And how warm is the John Lewis silk one? For reference, my preferred weight is that of a 9 tog duvet.

    Weighted blankets

Two threads on this topic have been merged. The thread title has been changed to cover both threads. Sigh. I rely quite a lot on the weight of my duvet to make me sleepy, so when it's too hot for my usual duvet, I'm rather at a loss for getting to sleep. Last summer, I was able to sleep...

    Hydroxyproline elevated in ME/CFS

Reading Jen Brea's latest post on Medium, I came across some interesting information. I have created this thread to discuss these findings about hydroxyproline and collagen. It so happens that I heard about this through a post written by Jen Brea. However, please keep this thread to discussing...

I would like to learn some basic neurology. Can anyone recommend things for me to read? Needs to be easy to take in in small chunks.

    Autism and ME/CFS

Interesting, but clearly the two conditions can be distinguished by the fact that ME involves physical fatigue, PEM etc, and often a plethora of other symptoms, and ADHD doesn't. Also I highly doubt that the cognitive symptoms of pediatric ME are indistinguishable from ADHD in severe (or even...

    Autism and ME/CFS

Isn't Dr Wakefield the guy who said that the MMR vaccine causes autism? That's now been throughly debunked? Many autistic people will find this notion highly offensive. ME is very clearly an illness. Autism on the other hand, few autistics would call it an illness, many see it as...

    Autism and ME/CFS

Hi I'm autistic (and I have ME) I've been autistic my whole life. I've had ME for less than 20% of my life. I don't think you would find any autistic people agreeing with the idea that "ME is late onset autism". Autism does not involve any deficits in energy production or any exercise...

I think the sentence in the minutes is poorly worded and probably means that the video claims that GET is okay.

Studentship in process: A Mixed Method Exploration of the Association between Autism and Central Sensitivity Syndromes, Sarah Grant, KCL

I'm autistic and I have ME (like, I definitely have ME, I'm diagnosed and I meet the ICC criteria). My ME started off mild, and for a long time I thought it was just "autism fatigue" (also known as autistic burnout), as I'd heard people talking about that in the autistic community. Even when my...

Studentship in process: A Mixed Method Exploration of the Association between Autism and Central Sensitivity Syndromes, Sarah Grant, KCL

YUCK. So they're implying that me/CFS and FM both involve "illness beliefs" AND they're implying that autistic people are more likely to have faulty beliefs about their health. So they're managing to shit on both ME/cfs patients and autistic people with this one.
