Central sensitisation theory - discussion thread

Correct. Two clinics, on opposite ends of the country, frame ME with CSS. Both of these clinics will have staff presenting at the upcoming ME Conference in Montreal. I have little doubt they will try to promote the roll out of CCS to treat ME across the country. The Canadian ME community has...

Mind, Madness and Power - Simon Wessely and others

I concur. And we need more catalysts to facilitate that shift sooner then later. Controlling the message, as we have seen for decades, is crucial. Creating compelling and/or provocative media, and not relying on paid or earned media, as we have seen with Unrest, seems to be a good option for...

Mind, Madness and Power - Simon Wessely and others

I just googled 'signs of a sociopath' and the top sign is: "Superficial charm and good intelligence." If it walks like a duck.

Article : Rapid rise in mortality in England and Wales in early 2018 – an investigation is needed

Medical error is the 3rd leading cause of death in the US. Doubt things are much different here in Canada or other 'developed' countries. If the UK has been cutting health services there will be more 'errors' / deaths. Maybe now its the 2nd leading cause of death in the UK?

Diagnosis and Treatment of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Myalgic Encephalitis: It's Mitochondria, Not Hypochondria - by Sarah Myhill

If this narrative of people with ME all being type A, over-achieving perfectionists were true, than wouldn't we have the best organized and most effective advocacy movement and fundraising machine in the world and wouldn't find ourselves among the most marginalized / harmed by health care...

American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology article on ME

Hey folks - lets show the journalist Lily Williams that wrote the article some love and comment on her article so she's inspired and directed by her editor to cover more ME. And share widely. Here is the comment I left for her: Thank you! Finally an article that exposes the iatrogenic harm...

Association of chronic fatigue syndrome with premature telomere attrition (2018) Unger et al

If we are hypometabolic, doesn't that mean our metabolism is slower, therefore we would age slower and look younger? Anyway, FWIW, this blogger talks about Rapamune as an anti-aging medication. "It is the particular action of inflammation against healthy, native tissues that is arguably the...

'Call to Action' for Ontario Residents re Task Force Recommendations for ME, FM & ES/MCS!

As the large amount of faith and trust I had in the medical system had been quickly eroded, I do take some comfort that they are not recommending any BPS babble in this initial recommendation: Recommendation #1.1: Make a formal public statement recognizing ME/CFS, FM and ES/MCS. The task force...

Replace 'people' with 'physicians' and we'd have the Stigma by Physician scale.

Tues 20 Feb: Livestream of post-Unrest panel discussion, incl. Ron Davis, Lily Chu, Montoya, Tuller

I liked how Tuller mentioned how activism as theatre was an AIDS pandemic tactic. I'm all in for making a big scene to get media and shame politicians. We'll get no where without big provocative in your face advocacy (to go along with the inside strategy). It is theatre, it is performance, just...

    1st ME/CFS Canadian Collaborative Conference

The Canadian Institute of Health Research (CIHR, the org that decides what diseases get what funding) promotes patient involvement in research - but talk is cheap: http://www.cihr-irsc.gc.ca/e/45851.html What is patient engagement and why do it? Patient engagement occurs when patients...
