First decent article in Hungary that discusses the connection between long covid and ME/CFS (which was not written by me)
So far, there have been only 1-2 short mentions of ME/CFS in the country in this respect, but either in the wrong context (psychosocial) or from someone not really...
Extremely Severe ME/CFS—A Personal Account
"A personal account from an Extremely Severe Bedridden ME/CFS patient about the experience of living with extremely severe ME/CFS. Illness progression, medical history, description of various aspects of extremely severe ME/CFS and various essays on...
Hm, this sounds like before covid-19, we had no idea what other viruses could trigger ME/CFS.
Also, about long covid Koroshetz said: "We do know, unfortunately, that it's not a minor problem," he added. "We also know now that the hope that this might be something like infectious mononucleosis...
So this probably isn't new information to many of you but it was to me because I didn't really know who George Monbiot was before the Michael Sharpe incident. Very recently I also saw him in the documentary Seaspiracy as one of the people sharing their opinion on the subject of industrial...
ABSTRACT
Background
We followed college students before, during, and after infectious mononucleosis (IM) for the development of myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS).
Aim
We used network analysis to study relationships between pre-illness cytokine data amongst three...
Thank you! It turns out she has already seen Unrest and Forgotten Plague. This was my first ever "letter to the editor" and it looks like I've hit gold. :)
From the oldest Hungarian women's magazine. Long interview, I included only the ME/CFS part here (Google translate):
Dr. Judit Balázs on the psychopandemic: More and more people are already turning to us with psychiatric complaints
We talked about the mental effects of the epidemic, post-covid...
Abstract
Impairment of health after overcoming the acute phase of COVID-19 is being observed more and more frequently. Here different symptoms of neurological and/or cardiological origin have been reported. With symptoms, which are very similar to the ones reported but are not caused by...
There's no specific medication for the chronic fatigue of post-covid syndrome
I've found the first doctor who actually talked about chronic fatigue syndrome in connection with long covid in Hungary. So far every doctor only saw it as either organ damage or a psychiatric problem and long covid...
I think the two situations are probably different. My fatigue is not secondary or a result of insomnia, since I don't have insomnia but hypersomnia/somnolence. I get enough sleep, way more than enough actually (which is then never enough actually...). This extreme fatigue is part of my PEM...
I think it's due to the large variation in symptoms. I do have the extreme fatigue, it is one of my most debilitating symptoms along with cognitive dysfunction. I remember @Bill had it too. It is very abnormal, more comparable to a feeling of being sedated with something than to anything else...
Psychiatrist Would Abandon Research on Long COVID and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
Pretty good article by Llewellyn King, mostly about the recent awful opinion piece written by Jeremy Devine in the Wall Street Journal. He briefly mentions Wessely and Michael Sharpe and the latter's connections with...
One of the reasons I left the ME/CFS Facebook groups was that I was tired of arguing with some of the members there about the psychological aspect. Some people were sure their illness was caused by emotional trauma accumulating over the years (or over generations, or happening in their...
So I haven't read the posts on this forum/in this thread about the Monbiot article yet, only the article itself (and I'm going to read them later). But I just wanted to share that it's such an unbelievable story that in the past couple of hours I had been working on a summary of it in Hungarian...
Guardian opinion piece by George Monbiot:
Apparently just by talking about it, I’m super-spreading long Covid
"Rejoice! A mystery has been solved. We now have an explanation for long Covid, a condition afflicting many thousands of people. A super-spreader has been identified. Important as this...

Swiss Re: Expert Forum on secondary COVID-19 impacts Feb 2021
Posts have also been moved from threads about the PACE trial
and about Monbiot's previous article.

:jawdrop:
What a very scientific way to deal with this! First I was on the fence about his story with long covid, and tried to see him as someone misguided by his own experience and projecting it on others, like so many people tend to do, but this attitude with the blocking is hard to explain...
Abstract
COVID‐19 leads to severe respiratory problems, but also to long‐COVID syndrome associated primarily with cognitive dysfunction and fatigue. Long‐COVID syndrome symptoms, especially brain fog, are similar to those experienced by patients undertaking or following chemotherapy for cancer...
