    Mind, body and ME

I imagine that when you leave the forum, I cease to exist too. We'd better make sure never to be absent from the forum at the same time, otherwise neither of us will exist to bring the other one back and we'll both be trapped in a state of non-existence for eternity. Which is our ultimate fate...

    Mind, body and ME

@Wonko I've noticed that whenever I log out of the forum and turn off my computer, you cease to exist. I've always wondered - what's that like?

Trial By Error: Professor Sharpe’s Retraction Requests

Let me guess - in the minds of Wessely, Geralda, and other BPS activists, Ben Goldacre gets to be defined as a valiant whistleblower for grassing up Emma Reinhold. They just have to redefine words to fit their purpose, as they've always done.

Caroline Struthers' correspondence and blog on the Cochrane Review: 'Exercise therapy for chronic fatigue syndrome, 2017 and 2019, Larun et al.

Maybe it's already been made and publicly advertising the post with a short deadline is just a formality.

Effects of a brief CBT and transcranial direct current stimulation on odor sensitivity: An exploratory investigation (2019)

Well to be fair the smell of bullshit used to make me more anxious than it does now, thanks to the efforts of these good people and their colleagues I am becoming more desensitized to it.

Harvard's "med" and "ed" is an actual disgrace

They do it to cover themselves, not to admit that they may be wrong. If challenged, there's no-one more stubborn than a woo merchant. It's a very passive-aggressive "may", kind of like when someone says "I would like to suggest" through gritted teeth.

Harvard's "med" and "ed" is an actual disgrace

Do they have to put "may" in front of everything? I thought that was just the Mayo Clinic. You may be.

My Label and Me: I’m not tired and lazy, I have ME

He probably thinks GET and CBT will work just as well the second time around. Unfortunately having been misled by BPS activists as a child, it'll probably be impossible to convince him otherwise now until it's too late.

'Consumer-Contested Evidence: Why the ME/CFS Exercise Dispute Matters So Much' PLOS Blog post by Hilda Bastian

His twitter spats generally end with him leaving a permanent record of his unpleasantness and making an increasing number of observers aware of what we've been up against. I'm always delighted when MS goes on twitter, because it's only a matter of time before he shoots himself in the foot and...

Ethical classification of ME/CFS in the United Kingdom (2019) Diane O'Leary

And by the way, the only difference between the above scenario and the UK is that in the UK quackery is being carried out on an industrial scale with government approval and the purveyors are given knighthoods. All "inside medicine". Whether they belong there or not is another matter, but it's...

Ethical classification of ME/CFS in the United Kingdom (2019) Diane O'Leary

There's an excellent doctor in my village who does a sideline in swinging pendulums and whatever that thing is called which measures electrical conductivity which the doctor says is diagnosing allergies. German doctors often dabble in a bit of quackery on the side, offer it to their patients and...

'Consumer-Contested Evidence: Why the ME/CFS Exercise Dispute Matters So Much' PLOS Blog post by Hilda Bastian

Actually no, it's the next response in the series. Response 1 - "Have you read the paper?" If they obviously have and you don't feel you can chance your arm with response one, then: Response 2 - "Have you spoken to any of the PACE researchers?" If they obviously have and you don't feel you...

BMJ blog: The language used to describe patient feedback has a detrimental influence on safety culture

If that happens in everyday life, the customer can take their custom elsewhere. I hear that in the UK doctor shopping is difficult, and having a monopoly or being in such a powerful position does bring out the worst in some people and they start taking liberties (sad pun intended). Fortunately...
