BMA presidential essay prize 2020

A one-off essay competition aimed at solutions-driven writing on the topic of justice and fairness in medical practice and policy.

The essay prize is part of BMA President Raanan Gillon’s ‘fairness project’ and aims to help advance discussion in this important area of medical ethics.

About the competition
We invite entrants to submit a 500 word abstract for an essay that tackles challenging, practical, contemporary problems in healthcare that have justice and fairness at their core.

The winning essay will receive £4,000 and will be published by the BMA. Those shortlisted will receive £100 each.

The deadline for submitting abstracts is 30 January 2020.

Topic ideas
Topics could be on one of the following themes, or another topic of your choice that’s related to justice and fairness in medical practice and policy:

The concept of fairness and justice in relation to the General Medical Council’s instruction to doctors to 'Make the care of your patient your first concern'...

Thank you for thinking of me, Snowdrop. It's a fascinating area and so very relevant to ME issues.

Unfortunately, I don't think I'm up to taking it on at the moment but I appreciate the thought. However, I hope someone feels able to have a go at drafting an abstract.
